The Mountain Center's (MC) NM Genders and Sexualities Alliance Network (NMGSAN) is a youth-driven program that works with LGBTQIA2s+ youth and GSA clubs to create safer, more inclusive and more welcoming schools while building stronger, more resilient LGBTQIA2s+ and allied youth leaders and activists. The NMGSAN focuses on positive identity development, resiliency skills, self-efficacy, mental hea
lth and empowerment of LGBTQIA2s+ youth. We combine the tenants of MC’s Experiential Adventure Based Resiliency Model with youth organizing methods and youth-led trainings on leadership, anti-oppression, community activism, su***de prevention and life skills. Through peer support, leadership development, and training, the NMGSAN supports young people in starting, strengthening, and sustaining GSAs and builds the capacity of GSAs to create safer and more equitable school environments in New Mexico.
