Domestic violence and su***de are deeply connected issues. Survivors often face isolation, fear, and long‑term trauma, and these experiences can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts. Supporting survivors means not only helping them find safety, but also recognizing the emotional and mental health impacts that abuse can leave behind.

This month, we honor those who are struggling, those we’ve lost, and those who continue to fight for safety and healing. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, reaching out for support can be a life‑changing step. The Alle‑Kiski Area HOPE Center is here to help, without judgment and without conditions.

Awareness saves lives. Compassion saves lives. Connection saves lives.

5 Ways to support a victim of domestic violence.

💜Believe them. If they’ve told you about the abuse, make sure to communicate that you believe them and you take the abuse seriously.

💜Connect them with the HOPE Center. Our advocates are available 24/7, 365 days a year. If you would like to speak to an advocate please call, 724-224-1266.

💜Help them prepare to escape. The decision to leave a relationship isn’t easy. Your friend may still love and care for their partner, even though they want the abuse to stop. And leaving can be the most dangerous time for a domestic violence survivor.

💜Be there for them no matter what. The path to recovery can be long and slow. Having you by their side can make it a little bit easier.

💜Resist the urge to say "just leave." While your heart is in the right place, telling them what to do isn’t the best way to help a victim of domestic abuse, especially one who’s likely been told what to do by an abuser for a lengthy period of time.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, you are not alone. We are here to help. Our advocates are available 24/7, 365 days a year. If you would like to speak to an advocate please call, 724-224-1266.

The hotline provides support, education, information, and referrals.
