Today, the Thursday trail crew completed our work on Warriors Passage Trail. It is ready for the running event. Our crew consisted of Rick, Brenda, Alan(Forest service), Tim , and myself. Alan sawed out 6 trees. Rick, Brenda, Tim and myself brushed out approximately 20,000 feet of the trail. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that my trail camera slipped out of my pocket in Alan’s truck. So, I only have two photos courtesy of Rick and Brenda. Once I get my trail cam back, I will add them. Stay tuned….

Scientists at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine have identified a tick protein that could block disease transmission. This breakthrough could lead to new strategies to prevent the spread of illnesses affecting people, pets and livestock.

For tomorrow's workday from Alan:

Let’s shoot for a repeat of last week. 0830 at Oosterneck and then we can figure out a game plan on how to handle the last bits of Warriors Passage as we head up to Waucheesi. Let’s try to figure out a way that works if we need to cut back early due to storms. Sound like a 45-50% chance of scattered thunderstorms. Let me know if I need to bring anything out.

Looking forward to it!

Alan Chapman

Trail reports for the week of June 14-20, 2026. Could be wet the first part of the week, dry for a few days then wet again. Alan Chapman thinks this Thursday is Brush/Log out from Waucheesi to Bald River Road. Danny reported only 2 trees down, and said overall condition was good. If possible, we can try and set a government rig in the middle on the powerline road to make this stretch pretty easy. Alan will be there for both of those days.

Remember the SABCH membership meeting this Tuesday with a Board meeting before at 5:30. Western Sizzler in Athens.

This Thursday’s workday. It will be at 0830 along the second leg of Warrior’s Passage Trail. Meet at Oosterneck that might be a good spot to brief, but I figured you guys would park up along Wildcat Road. I will let you guys hash that out amongst yourselves. The stretch from Wildcat Road to Wildcat Creek has been logged out already, but does need brushed, and I figure the stretch from Wildcat Road to Bald River likely needs brushed after the prescribed burn. Alan, our FS guy will however be working with everyone on the 18th and the 25th as we tackle the stretch from Bald River Road up to Waucheesi.
