The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has renewed the order implementing temporary animal import requirements in response to the ongoing detections of New World screwworm in Texas.

There is currently no indication of an outbreak in Tennessee. This proactive order focuses on education, early detection and prevention to help protect animal health.

New World screwworm is a parasitic fly that can affect warm-blooded animals, especially through open wounds. Animal owners, producers, veterinarians and transporters are encouraged to monitor animals closely, especially wounds and areas around the nose, ears, eyes, mouth and genitalia.

Watch for drainage, discharge, bleeding, swelling, discomfort, lethargy, isolation or unusual odors.

Suspected cases must be reported to the Tennessee State Veterinarian’s Office within 24 hours at 615-837-5120 or [email protected].

Today, the Thursday Trail Crew tackled Blue Ridge Horse Trail. We logged out 7 trees, and brushed out one mile of trail. With the temperature predicted to be near 100, coupled with the heat index making it feel even hotter, we decided to have a short work day. Glad we did. It was 98 when we arrived back to King Slough. We plan on working on Yellow Creek Horse Trail next week to log out the multiple blow downs blocking the trail. Stay tuned….

BCHBSF Members and Friends,
I would like to welcome all that would like to make plans for helping to remove metal horse stanchions and replace with 12x12 horse corrals. The work will take place September 7-15 at Bear Creek Horse Camp. This Camp is located north of Oneida Tennessee in the Big South Fork River and Recreation Area. If you would like to help BCHBSF Chapter with this project, please contact me at (423) 802-5760. I look forward to working and having fun with the BCHA Team…Keith

The Thursday Trail Crew worked on the popular Falls Branch Falls Trail today. We sawed 12 trees off the trail and brushed out 1.3 miles of trail. Even met a family from out of town hiking the trail! The trail looks 👀 good!
