Thank you so much Alpha Phi Omega of Metro Houston

Adopt-a-Spot is about so much more than picking up litter. It’s about caring for the environment we live in, taking responsibility for the spaces we share, and leaving our little corner of the world better than we found it.

It’s about bringing people together, stepping outdoors, connecting with nature, and remembering that we are all part of something much bigger than ourselves.

Because we don’t own this planet. We share it. And with that comes the responsibility to care for it—not just for ourselves, but for the generations and all the living things that will come after us. 🌎💚

The statistic from Emerson College highlights the impact that coffee pods can have on our planet.

The good news?
You can keep the coffee pods from your morning pick-me-up out of landfills and incinerators with TerraCycle! TerraCycle US

They have free and paid recycling solutions for coffee pods.

Free:

Paid:

How do they we actually recycle them?
1. They receive your shipment at TerraCycle Material Recovery Facilities.
2. Capsules are opened, and coffee grounds and capsules are sorted by density.
3. The coffee grounds are composted, and the remaining materials are cleaned.
4. Metals are sorted, smelted, and formed for use in secondary metals manufacturing.
5. Clean plastics are sorted by material and mixed with other plastics to make recycled plastic blends.

Once your coffee pods are processed into raw materials, they’re used to make new products, including outdoor furniture, shipping pallets, metal ingots, conduit, and much more!

Are you "wishcycling"? 🤔 Wishcycling happens when we toss non-recyclable items into the recycling bin wishing they could be recycled.

Watch this quick video to learn more https://youtu.be/GmjPuuY7ZSg?si=SMl0c9D9PRzbn4Ao

The City of Sugar Land, Texas – City Government Sugar Land has its own accepted material list right here- If the item is not on the list, don't put the item in the recycle cart - let's RECYCLE RIGHT not WISH CYCLE!

https://sugarlandtx.gov/313/Solid-Waste-Recycling-Service

Are you "wishcycling"? 🤔 Wishcycling happens when we toss non-recyclable items into the recycling bin wishing they could be recycled.

In the kitchen, common "wishcycled" items include:
❌ Dirty pizza boxes with heavy grease
❌ Disposable coffee cups & paper plates (coated in plastic film)
❌ Broken ceramic mugs or Pyrex cookware
❌ Plastic cutlery

When in doubt, check with your local municipality or waste hauler for a precise list of what is accepted in your recycling program or toss it in the trash. Protecting the recycling stream starts with what we leave OUT of the bin!

♻️ Challenge: Take 2 minutes today to check your kitchen recycling bin for one "wishcycled" item!
