Today is the Day of the African Child! But this isn't just an ordinary holiday, it’s a day to remember a major moment in history that shows exactly how powerful young people can be.
Exactly 50 years ago, on June 16, 1976, thousands of brave school children in Soweto, South Africa, stood up for themselves. They marched together because they wanted a fair, high-quality education and the right to learn in their own native languages.
Even though it was a very tough and sad day, their courage changed everything. They proved to the whole world that your voice matters, no matter how small you are.
