At 10 years old, Rebka Lile left Ethiopia and began a new life with her adoptive family in Akron, Ohio. Now a junior at , she reflects on her journey in a talk—sharing the culture shock of moving across the world, losing her language, wrestling with identity, and learning that healing is not linear. 🌍💙

On campus, Rebka is thriving: a Morrill Scholar double-majoring in International Studies & English with a minor in Studio Art, she serves as a Resident Advisor, secretary of the Undergraduate Black Law Student Association, and Alumni Engagement Chair of the African American Heritage Festival.

For students who grew up in foster care or for adoptees like Rebka, higher education can come with unique challenges. Ohio is stepping up with:

✨ Ohio Reach – a statewide network connecting foster care-connected students with mentorship, housing support, financial aid, and on-campus liaisons. 57 schools, including Ohio State, are now part of the Postsecondary Designation.

✨ College Adoption Grant – a new one-time $2,500 award for Ohio students adopted on or after Jan. 1, 2023, attending a qualifying college or university.

Together, these programs remind us that every student deserves the chance to pursue their dreams—and the right support can make that possible. 🌟

Cameron is 15 years old and, like many teenagers in Texas, he loves football. 🏈 A freshman at Seagoville High School , he dreams of having a forever family in the stands—cheering him on at every game and encouraging him through life’s big and small moments.

Cameron has faced loss, including the passing of his father, but he continues to hold onto hope. Now in foster care, he’s waiting for a family who will stand beside him with patience, love, and support.

Recently, Cynthia Izaguirre featured Cameron as part of Wednesday’s Child, a program where local news stations highlight incredible kids who are waiting to be adopted. During his time on camera, Cameron had a blast at Fritz High Adventure , tackling ropes courses, climbing rock walls, and letting his adventurous side shine.

And when the day wound down, Cameron opened up about what matters most to him: football. For Cameron, the field is more than just a game—it’s his outlet, his passion, and a place where he feels strong and confident. What he hopes for now is a family who will cheer him on, help him practice, and stand by his side both on and off the field. 💙

Cameron is hardworking, thoughtful, and determined. More than anything, he wants someone to show up—for his games, his future, and his heart.

You can help. Share Cameron’s story and help us find the forever family he’s been waiting for.
