Caring Children Clothing Children Volunteer Spotlight:
We want to introduce you to our Friday morning volunteer team!
Mary, Edwina and Lianne.
These three ladies have been working with our 4Cs families for a combined sixteen years!
Take a minute to meet them!
Mary Lendman, a mother and grandmother, is a former teacher. Mary was recruited by another former volunteer, who encouraged her to become a tutor in our reading tutoring program. She tutored children through the 4Cs Reading tutoring Program, in elementary school, who were reading below grade level for five years. When she finished up volunteering in the school, she decided to give her time as a 4Cs store volunteer. Mary works mainly in the 4Cs library, reading with children, as well as helping children and parents select age-appropriate books to take home with them.
Mary is a very patient, kind and dependable volunteer. Her background as a teacher makes for a good fit in the store library. Mary stated that she enjoys working in the 4Cs library because she enjoys helping children in our community and that education and books are so important.
In addition to the many volunteer hours that she donates to Caring Children Clothing Children, Mary also volunteers her time as a Guardian Ad Litem and at her church.
Meet Edwina Dunworth. Edwina began volunteering in the 4Cs store in 2021. She found out about the volunteer opportunity to help families in need through another volunteer. When asked what she like the most about volunteering at the 4Cs, she stated: “The store is so welcoming, inviting, organized and there is an abundance of beautiful clothing for the children in our community”.
A mother, grandmother and former speech therapist, Edwina is now retired. The hours that she donates to the 4Cs, are just a portion of the total hours that she volunteers. She is involved in many other Martin County organizations, including the Morgade Library, St. Lukes Church, and the Stuart Learning Center.
Lianne Hawkes has spent the past six years volunteering at the 4Cs counter to assist parents while shopping for their children in the 4Cs store. She also is a retired teacher, is married and has raised a family, which gives her a great skill set to ensure that the shopping experience is a positive one for everyone.
Lianne remembers that she was first introduced to Caring Children Clothing Children while visiting the 4Cs at a social event. Since she has always been community minded, she felt that the volunteer experience at the 4Cs would be a perfect fit for her. She came on board in 2020 and has been a regular part of the Friday morning volunteer team ever since.
In addition to the support that she gives to the 4Cs, Lianne is a regular volunteer At House of Hope and the First United Methodist Church in Hobe Sound.
Volunteering is more than just giving your time to help others; it's a powerful experience that can change lives—both yours and those you assist. Whether you find yourself in a local community center, an animal shelter, or a global initiative, the act of volunteering fosters connection, empathy, and personal growth.
Caring Children Clothing Children is appreciative of these three special ladies and value their time and talents to help children get the clothing and new shoes, at no cost, that they need to improve their self-esteem and allows parents to use the savings on clothing to pay other important bills.
