🐢 Found a sea turtle hatchling on the beach? Here's what to do.

Sea turtle nesting season is underway, and occasionally hatchlings become disoriented or need assistance. While it's natural to want to help, the best thing you can do is connect with trained wildlife professionals.

If you find a sea turtle hatchling:
📞 Call FWC's Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922
🏖️ If you're on a guarded beach, notify a nearby lifeguard stand
📞 If you're unable to reach FWC, contact Loggerhead Marinelife Center at 561-603-0211

Please do not take hatchlings home or transport them away from the beach. If you have already picked up a hatchling and cannot reach wildlife officials, return it to the area where it was found and await further guidance.

Together, we can help give Florida's sea turtles the best chance for a successful journey to the ocean. 💙

Don’t worry — Turtwig isn’t violent by nature. 🐢💥 She just takes sea turtle nesting season very seriously.

She’s here to remind everyone to keep our beaches:

🌙 Dark — artificial lights can disorient nesting sea turtles and hatchlings
🏖️ Flat — fill in holes and knock down sandcastles before leaving the beach
🧹 Clean — remove trash, chairs, and beach gear that can block or trap turtles

Every small action helps protect sea turtles during nesting season along Florida’s coast. Want to learn more about the incredible marine life that calls our waters home? Come visit us at the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center and discover how you can help protect our coastal ecosystems.

Splash, build, experiment, and discover!

The Waterworks Exploration Zone was designed to let kids “play their way” through hands-on learning about Florida’s waterways, watersheds, water flow, and coastal ecosystems.

From moving water through locks and channels to creating their own mini water systems, every interaction helps connect play with the real-world science behind the health of our rivers, estuaries, and oceans.

Come cool off, explore, and experience one of the newest interactive additions at the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center!

This week’s habitat health grade for the St. Lucie Estuary and southern Indian River Lagoon earned a solid “B” based on water clarity, oxygen levels, and salinity conditions across 34 monitoring reports in 10 zones.

There were no discharges from Lake Okeechobee this week, helping support fair to good salinity conditions for oysters, seagrass, and overall estuary health. Dissolved oxygen and water clarity also remained fair to good throughout the system.

This important data is collected by dedicated volunteers through Florida Oceanographic Society’s FLOWSS Citizen Science Water Quality Monitoring Program, helping track the health of our waterways week after week.

This data is intended for educational and outreach use only.

This week’s habitat health grade for the St. Lucie Estuary and southern Indian River Lagoon earned a “B” based on water clarity, oxygen levels, and salinity across 32 monitoring reports in 10 zones. 🌊

Even better — there were no discharges from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie Estuary this week.

Salinity levels remained fair to good across the estuary and lagoon, helping support healthy oyster habitat, while water clarity and dissolved oxygen levels also stayed in the fair to good range for seagrass and marine life health.

While conditions improved locally, moderate to high cyanobacteria potential was still observed along portions of Lake Okeechobee by NOAA satellite monitoring.

A huge thank you to the dedicated volunteers in our FOS FLOWSS citizen science program who help collect this important data each week. Your efforts play a vital role in protecting our waterways and informing our community. 💙
