🚣‍♀️ DSC Kicks Off Head Race Season!🌊

Ten Delta Sculling Center scullers tested their mettle in 5 km races at the Head of the Port Regatta in West Sacramento on October 4th!

Juniors Gabe, Kensley and Odette and Masters Bob, Jean, Lashan and Rachel kicked off the morning in single sculls. It was Odette's first race in a single, finishing 3rd out of 5!👏

🚣 At noon, Rohith and Haley competed in their first-ever sculling races, teaming up in doubles with Lashan and Kim S., respectively. For Lashan, a former top high school sculler in Sri Lanka, these were his first races in the U.S.!

💙 Rachel, the Central Valley's pioneer para-sculler and the regatta's only adaptive athlete, competed alongside non-adaptive Masters women, including Jean, who set a personal record!

💪 Bob, competing with a 79-year-old's handicap, finished an impressive 5th out of 14 in the Men's Single Sculls race!

From first-time racers to seasoned competitors, our athletes embraced the challenge of racing against some of California's strongest scullers.

🏆 Hosted by River City Rowing Club, the Head of the Port was a great start to the season and a perfect tune-up for the Head of the American Regatta on October 24th at Lake Natoma!

🌊 Safety on the water is something we take seriously at Delta Sculling Center.

Recently, we had the opportunity to bring in Captain Russell D. Moore, Safety Instructor and Owner of Marine Safety Solutions, for an intensive two-day powerboat safety and rescue training with our coaches and leadership team.

🚤 And this was hands-on learning.

Our team strengthened their skills in safe powerboat operation, emergency response and on-water rescue, with a strong focus on recognizing risks, making sound decisions and preventing emergencies before they happen.

Captain Russell brought tremendous knowledge and real-world experience to the training, giving our team practical skills they can put to work every time they are on the water supporting our athletes.

💙 We are incredibly grateful to the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways for providing grant funding that made this training possible. Investments like this allow us to continue strengthening our coaches and elevating the safety practices that protect the people we serve.

🌊 YOUR VOICE MATTERS ON THE DELTA!
Delta Sculling Center is proud to partner with American Rivers and Trust for Public Land on efforts to strengthen our community’s connection and access to the Delta.
Now we need to hear from YOU.
The Stockton Delta Access Community Survey is an opportunity for people throughout our community to share their experiences, perspectives and ideas about accessing and enjoying the Delta.

One week ago tonight, our community filled the room for Delta Sculling Center — and we are still incredibly grateful.
To everyone who joined us for our inaugural Port City Paella Dinner, thank you for showing up to support DSC and celebrate the impact happening on and off the water.
One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was watching our athletes look around the room and realize how many people they didn’t know. So many of you came from beyond our immediate DSC circle, a powerful reminder of just how many people throughout our community believe in what DSC brings to the Delta.
Our athletes noticed. We noticed. And it meant a great deal.
Your support that evening went far beyond filling the room. The funds raised help us put more people on the water, provide coaching and equipment and expand access to sculling for youth and adults, including military veterans and adaptive athletes.
Thank you for celebrating DSC, investing in our mission and helping us create even more opportunities for the people we serve.
Together, we are building a community where EveryBODY can scull. 💙

Somewhere between the first stroke and the last, something changes. 💙🧡

The noise gets quieter.
The water gets calmer.
And for a little while, it’s just you, the boat and the Delta.

At Delta Sculling Center, we get to experience moments like this right here in Stockton. From young people discovering the sport for the first time to adults finding a new challenge, military veterans getting back on the water and adaptive athletes experiencing the freedom of sculling, there is a place here for everyBODY.
