In 2012, our team released the award-winning film Over Troubled Waters, narrated by actor and environmentalist Ed Begley Jr. The film highlights the struggle to stop the Delta tunnels project, and the ways to create a sustainable water supply for California.

A new CalMatters op-ed from Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, Executive Director of Restore the Delta, and Gary Mulcahy, government liaison with the Winnemem Wintu Tribe, highlights a pattern of the Newsom administration’s closed-door dealmaking, disingenuous engagement with Tribes and communities, and backroom deals that circumvent public input and legislative due process.

As the race for California’s next governor approaches, one thing is clear: billionaires, lobbyists, and administrative insiders should not be the ones shaping California’s future.

THANK YOU STOCKTON COMMUNITY MEMBERS! 🎉

Thanks to your public comments, emails, and voicemails, Stockton's City Council voted to remove the data center portion from the 2026-2028 Economic Development Plan. In addition to this good news, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors also voted to develop a 45-day moratorium on data centers within the county.

After listening to concerns from Stockton residents surrounding the plan, City staff told Councilmembers that they plan to host community listening sessions throughout Stockton’s six districts sometime in November to gather public input on the economic development suggestions included in the plan.

We thank Stockton’s City Council in its entirety for voting to remove the AI data centers portion of the economic development plan and the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors for placing the 45-day moratorium.

Restore the Delta will provide more information once dates and times for the community listening sessions become available.

Tomorrow, September 1st, 2026, Stockton City Councilmembers will be considering a 3-Year Economic Development Action Plan for 2026-2028 that identifies "revenue generating industries" including AI data centers.

The California legislative session ends on August 31, and we need your help! 🚨

Last night, the latest AB/SB 113 language was released, and thanks to your calls and emails, harmful provisions surrounding the Delta Conveyance Project and the streamlining of CA Forever’s Shipbuilding project were left out of the latest budget language.

Two important bills are now headed to Governor Newsom’s desk:

💧 AB 2218 - The Indigenous Water Rights Bill, advancing Tribal equity in California water policy, and
🌊 SB 872 - Protecting California's Delta levees, water infrastructure, communities, and the Delta ecosystem

Take action and tell Governor Newsom to sign both bills into law.!

🚨 Statement: Restore the Delta calls on legislators to stop Newsom's attempt to fast-track California Forever

Yesterday evening, the Solano County Board of Supervisors voted to reject the current CA Forever draft legislation. Although the bill has now lost county support, Governor Newsom stated at a press conference that he would have “voted for it in a nanosecond” when asked by a reporter about the controversial California Forever legislative proposal.

‼ We need to let Governor Newsom and the CA legislature know that there should be "No backroom deals for California Forever".

Contact these legislators via phone and tell them to oppose the CA Forever Project and to not entertain this harmful legislation.
