Friends of the Stewartstown Railroad Our members assist the railroad company with its maintenance and excursion projects.

The Friends is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt membership organization founded in 2006 dedicated to the preservation of the Stewartstown Railroad. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt membership organization dedicated to the preservation of the Stewartstown Railroad, a 7.4 miles long shortline railroad founded in 1884 and opened in 1885 by the farmers and merchants in the Stewarts

town, PA area in southern York County. Donations to the Friends are generally tax-deductible, however, since each individual's income tax situation is unique, we suggest you confer with your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of your intended gift. In July 2013 the Friends made a minority equity investment in the Stewartstown Railroad Company as part of the railroad company's debt refinancing program.

🚂 Help Us Restore a Piece of Railroad History
We’re raising funds to restore Reading passenger coach #1341—a remarkable railcar with over a century of history.
Built by the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation and completed on May 27, 1922, this coach served the Reading Railroad in daily commuter service. During World War II, it even played a role in transporting troops.
Today, Coach #1341 is well over 100 years old—and while we’ve recently completed a full interior restoration, the exterior now needs urgent attention.
🔧 Work still needed includes:
• Replacing deteriorated window frames
• Removing rust and repairing metal
• Welding and riveting new steel panels
• Roof repairs and patching
• Full repainting and re-numbering
This isn’t just a restoration—it’s about preserving living history for future generations to experience.

The Friends of Stewartstown are proud to be participating in the Give Local York program!

All donations go directly toward the ongoing restoration of our historic passenger coaches #1341 and #1158. These beautiful cars are over 100 years old and require constant care to keep them rolling for future generations to enjoy.

We’re always happy to welcome volunteers to lend a hand with upkeep—but if you’re unable to volunteer, a donation of any size makes a huge difference.
