We’re in for a treat tonight! Peter Odanga will be with us! He is a missionary we support in Kenya who, among many, many other things, runs youth summer camps in Nairobi and Diani. Come, be encouraged and challenged. You don’t have to be a youth grouper to come… all y’all are welcome!

“Clear your desk, books away, take out a pencil; pop quiz time.” That sentence still makes my stomach knot and it’s been a few years since I’ve been in high school! No one LOVES to be tested and found wanting. But tests are an important part of how God interacts with His chosen ones (YOU). Didn’t you already pass the test? You recognize Jesus as your Lord and Savior. So what is this testing all about?

Do you look more like your mom or your dad or perhaps and aunt or uncle? Did you get your grandma’s laugh or your grandpas’s big ears? What about your personality traits? Do you have a Scottish short temper or Dutch tenacity or German innovation? Is that what it means to bear image? Is that what scripture is talking about when it refers to us as God’s image bearers?

Check under your sink …. what is your go-to general, everyday cleaner to wipe down the kitchen counters? What about for those really nasty stains like barnyard or oil stains? Bleach? Ammonia? Vinegar? Industrial strength something-or-other? Whatever it is, I’m guessing it is not sprinkling blood on it. And yet, that is how we are cleansed…. can you even begin to explain how that is supposed to work?

Ah! Love! It’s what makes the world go around. It is what poets and songwriters obsess over and make a living off of; what movies must always at least contain a subplot of. It is a driving force and ‘makes’ people do stupid things. As a culture, we just love the idea of love. But do we understand love the way the author of love defines it?
