Stevensville FFA

Stevensville FFA FFA is a dynamic youth organization that changes lives and prepares members for premier leadership, It is one of the three components of agricultural education.

Stevensville FFA is one of Montana's premier chapters and we strive to bring the best to competitions in all of our categories that we compete in; Livestock, Horse, Farm Business Management, Crops, Agronomy, Ag Issues, Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. Parliamentary Procedure, Mechanics, Forestry, Sales, Creed, and many more. FFA is a dynamic youth organization that

changes lives and prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. FFA develops members’ potential and helps them discover their talent through hands-on experiences, which give members the tools to achieve real-world success. Members are future chemists, veterinarians, government officials, entrepreneurs, bankers, international business leaders, teachers and premier professionals in many career fields. FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. The official name of the organization is the National FFA Organization. The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. These letters are a part of our history and our heritage that will never change. FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. For this reason, the name of the organization was updated in 1988 after a vote of national convention delegates to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture. FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. So today, we are still the Future Farmers of America. But, we are the Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too. Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Our members live the motto Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live and Living to Serve. FFA members rise to the challenge of service embracing members of all walks of life united through FFA. We Are FFA.

On the third day of our journey, we arrived in Portland where a visit to the Wheat Marketing Center provided valuable insights into its mission to develop new products and nurture relationships with producers and bakers. A unique opportunity arose for the students to attend a presentation given by a delegation of Chinese mill workers and bakers, who were interested in leveraging American wheat in their products. This was followed by a visit to United Grain, where the intricacies of the grain export business were explained, and we were shown around the control center. Notable highlights included ascending a 300-foot silo in a small elevator and observing the loading of grain onto a vessel from Hong Kong, as well as witnessing the unloading process of a rail car. The day's activities concluded with a visit to Canon Beach, where the sunset was eagerly anticipated.

The second day's itinerary included a detailed tour of the agricultural facilities at Walla Walla Community College, led by Melissa, which encompassed agribusiness, plant and animal science, and culminated in a visit to the viticulture department. The candy store and Pioneer Park were a nice stop between visits. We then proceeded to Nelson Irrigation, where we learned about the design and manufacturing processes for irrigation components, including mini nozzles and large gun parts, and explored topics such as robotics, electrical discharge manufacturing, and plastic extrusion. Our tour was expertly guided by Fred, a former resident of Bitterroot and a Montana State Bobcat.

The Agronomy team embarked on their commodity tour, commencing with a visit to Whitman Farms, where they gained valuable insights into regenerative farming practices, including the application of reverse osmosis water for herbicides and fertilizers. We would like to thank David and Cori for their warm welcome. The team then proceeded to Tri State Grain Inspection to gain a deeper understanding of grain grading procedures, and we appreciate the support provided by Jack and his crew. The team concluded with a visit to Boyer Farms to explore garbanzo bean production and tour their processing facility, and we extend our gratitude to Casey and Buck for their hospitality and snacks.

Kealie and Adelaide are spending the week at Montana State University for the Department of Agricultural & Technology Education’s eDucATE Academy!

This three-day immersive academy gives students the opportunity to explore what it’s like to become an Agricultural Education teacher. Throughout the week, Kealie and Adelaide will experience life on MSU’s campus, connect with faculty, students, and alumni, and learn more about the impact agricultural educators have in classrooms and communities across Montana.

We’re excited to see these two represent Stevensville FFA as they explore a future in agricultural education!
