Its commitments expanded over time to include the publication of 3 peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The Eagle Hill Institute (formerly the Humboldt Field Research Institute) is located on the eastern coast of Maine and is perhaps best known for the advanced natural history science seminars and scientific illustration workshops it has offered since 1987. The Northeastern Naturalist and Southeastern Naturalist are tandem natural history science journals for eastern North America, while the Journal of the North Atlantic is a circum-North Atlantic archaeology and environmental history journal. The Institute is developing a 4th journal, Space and Evolution, which will serve as an international forum for specialists involved in furthering humankind’s efforts to explore Space and settle off-Earth Space. Other efforts of the Institute include a public library collection, a residency program for scholars and scientific illustrators, the annual Northeast Natural History Conference, occasional expeditions into the Orinoco region of Venezuela, and public lecture programs.

The Institute is seeking a socially adept and philosophically nuanced thinker who can serve as our communications/publicity/outreach specialist. The position is of special interest to someone who has a natural inclination to earnestly take on self-motivated new interests. We ask for a cover email, CV, and a college or university transcript, along with three references.

The Northeast Natural History Conference (NENHC 2027) will be held in Albany, NY, at the Albany Capital Center from April 16–18, 2027! You won't want to miss the Northeast's largest regional forum for researchers, natural resource managers, students, and naturalists to present current information on the varied aspects of applied field biology and natural history for the Northeastern United States and adjacent Canada. It will serve as a premier venue to identify research and management needs, foster friendships and collegial relationships, and encourage a greater region-wide interest in natural history by bringing people with diverse backgrounds together. Every year, we receive affirmative feedback about how friendly, collegial, and enjoyable the conference is and how it is especially welcoming of and valuable to students.

Registration is not yet open, but we are open for session proposals—it is a good time to begin planning your participation!

The 2026 Caribbean Natural History Conference (CNHC) is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, December 2–3, 2026. The conference runs on Puerto Rico time with two morning sessions (10–1:00) and two afternoon session 1:30–4:30). Registration is not yet open, but we are open for session proposals and presentation submissions.

CNHC is an online forum for researchers, natural resource managers, students, and naturalists. We welcome presentations on natural history science and conservation (freshwater, marine, and terrestrial organisms and environments) and applied field biology of the Caribbean islands and coastal circum-Caribbean mainland. The conference aims to help identify research and management needs, connect researchers, foster friendships, and encourage a greater region-wide interest and indeed global interest in the greater Caribbean region by bringing people with diverse backgrounds together to learn from each other.

By hosting the conference online, this encourages the broadest-possible regional and global participation, while factoring out issues of travel restrictions and costs.
