Washington Airports Task Force

Washington Airports Task Force Nonprofit The Washington Airports Task Force (WATF) does not operate Reagan National or Washington Dulles International Airports.

The WATF is a public/private sector, non-profit partnership dedicated to ensuring that the airports can reach their potential, thereby continuing their impact as economic engines. The WATF is funded on the public side through grants from the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Aviation, and from Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, which border the airport. Funding on the private sector side comes f

rom individuals and corporations who understand that the global access provided by Dulles Airport is of fundamental importance to our region's sustained prosperity. That is the responsibility of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA).

On Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. 🇺🇸

Washington Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport serve as gateways for military personnel, their families, and those who travel to honor our fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery and memorials throughout the National Capital Region.

WATF is grateful for their service and sacrifice. We will never forget.

Strong regions require strong partnerships.

WATF works closely with Fairfax County, Loudoun Economic Development, Prince William County Department of Economic Development, and the Town of Herndon to support regional growth through aviation infrastructure.

Why partnerships matter:

🤝 Coordinated economic development strategies
📍 Strategic planning that connects aviation to regional needs
💼 Collaboration on business attraction and retention
🚀 Alignment between workforce development and industry growth

When airports, counties, and business leaders work together—regions win.

Thanks to our partners for their continued support of WATF's mission.

DID YOU KNOW? WATF administers a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) in Northern Virginia near Dulles International Airport.

Foreign Trade Zones provide cost advantages for companies engaged in international trade:

💰 Defer, reduce, or eliminate Customs duties
📦 Streamline inventory management across borders
🌍 Support companies serving global markets

The FTZ program, established in 1934, encourages U.S.-based operations by treating designated properties as outside U.S. Customs territory for tariff purposes. When merchandise is removed from the zone for export, duty is never paid. When transferred to U.S. commerce, duties are due only at that time.

WATF has administered this zone to help regional companies compete globally while creating local jobs.

The future of Northern Virginia’s economy depends on how well our airports connect to the region.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) play critical roles in keeping the National Capital Region connected—to global markets, national business hubs, and millions of travelers each year.

At DCA, passenger demand continues to grow, with the airport serving more than 25 million travelers annually, highlighting its importance as a key domestic gateway for the region.

Meanwhile, strong connectivity at IAD is helping drive airline investment.

“Dulles International Airport has seen more than 1 million trips and airlines have told airport officials they are bringing more flights to IAD because of the direct rail connection,” WMATA Media Relations Manager Jason Pascale told Capital News Service in 2023.

From Metro access to DCA to the Silver Line connection to IAD, transportation investments that improve airport accessibility strengthen the entire regional economy.

WATF advocates for transportation investments that expand airport accessibility—not just for travelers, but for the businesses, jobs, and global connections that power our region.
