How to survive a Monday, according to Sif —

🐾 Find the perfect shady spot
🐾 Get comfortable
🐾 Close your eyes
🐾 Pretend Monday isn’t happening

Seems like a pretty solid strategy to us. 😂🐺

🐺 What words would YOU use to describe the wolf?

Strong. Resilient. Nurturing. Intelligent. Fierce. Devoted. Misunderstood.

Throughout history, wolves have been admired and feared, honored and persecuted, praised and slandered. The way we view the gray wolf is deeply personal, shaped by our own experiences, beliefs, and connections to the natural world.
And for many, the wolf has been a source of inspiration.
That connection is at the heart of WSC’s Women & Wolves event. 🐺🩷

Join us for a special evening that creates a space for women to come together over a shared appreciation for this incredible animal. Hear from the women of WSC and our guest speakers as they share how wolves have influenced their lives, passions, and careers—and have the opportunity to share what the wolf means to you.

The evening will feature a guided tour of WSC, guest and resident speakers, our first Q&A panel, social and creative activities, a catered dinner and beverages, and an evening howl🌙

🐻 FACT FRIDAY — PART 2: The Answer is… FICTION!
Despite their name, American black bears don’t always have black fur!

Black is the ancestral and most common coat color of the American black bear, but genetic variations can result in bears with coats ranging from brown and cinnamon to blonde and even white.
And coat color isn’t the only thing that can help distinguish one bear from another! Some black bears have a patch of white fur on their chest known as a chest blaze. The size, shape, and appearance of these markings can vary between individuals, making them a useful feature for identifying particular bears. 🐻🔎

We get to see this firsthand with our three black bear cubs at WSC! Each one has their own unique chest markings:
🐾 Our male cub sports the most prominent blaze—a distinctive “V” shape across his chest.
🐾 Our more confident female also has a partial “V”-shaped blaze.
🐾 Our more reserved female keeps things subtle with just a few small white speckles on her chest.
As these three continue to grow, their unique markings are one of the ways we can quickly tell who’s who.
How confident are YOU in your bear identification skills? 👀
Come put them to the test tomorrow during Saturday Open Hours! Our black bears are always happy to make an appearance for visitors! 💚
