Dia Duit!

I wanted to take a moment to announce that our division was able to raise over 230 dollars for SOAR (Support our Aging Religious) with our involvement in the AOH Michael J Roarty Men’s Division Golf Tournament yesterday. I wanted to take a moment to thank them for allowing us the opportunity to raise money for our charity.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank the women of the LAOH St Charles St Patrick’s Division and the women of LAOH St Brendan the Navigator division.

Without their donations of beverages, money and time, this event would not have been as successful and that meant more to me than you ladies will ever know.

I am very lucky to know such wonderful women, thank you all.

Haigh!
I wanted to take a moment to encourage everyone to see the Irish film “Power Ballad”

I was fortunate to see this movie last night and as some of you may know, I rarely see films in theaters anymore. Most of them are not appropriate for my daughter, I don’t enjoy superhero and comic book films and I’m not a huge fan of Star Wars (no judgement on those who are, just not my thing)

But when I saw the trailer for this movie, then saw that it was filmed in Ireland with beautiful scenery, fun music and looked like an interesting story, I decided to give it a chance.

I’m so glad I did, it’s a wonderful little movie about an Irish wedding band with Paul Rudd as the lead singer. Hearing him sing songs from my childhood like “Celebrate” by Kool and the Gang and “SOS” by the Police had me smiling and seeing the beautiful scenery of Ireland made me proud and my very handsome date Brian Kaller had actually been to many of the locations featured in the movie!

But what I liked best about the movie was that it wasn’t about a rags to riches story of a band, it’s what happens after, what happens when your dreams take a detour and for another character, maybe what you wish for isn’t exactly what you wanted

I don’t want to reveal anything more about the plot because I want you to see this for yourselves but I encourage everyone to see this film and bring your families, I would have been comfortable with my 12 year old daughter seeing this film and let’s show Hollywood that there is a demand for fun, Irish films that all ages can enjoy!

Day 3 of Missouri River Irish Fest was a success!

The Irish Culture tent was packed for our three speakers!

Peggy Dolan read her wonderful Irish children’s book “The Spring Suitcase Stories” to our Wee Folk, we even had a visit from Fred the Pig, who wandered into the tent to hear the story!

Brian Kaller, journalist and author, told a packed crowd all about his experiences of living in rural Ireland for 20 years and read from his book “The Last Who Remember: Traditional Ireland in the Words of its People”

Stacy Burton, State of Missouri LAOH Irish State Historian, presented “Bad Bridgets-A Story of Irish Female Criminals” and the court docket included the infamous pickpocket “Old Mother Hubbard” and the murder of Sarah Brennan committed by Mary Farmer.

Day 2 of Missouri River Irish Fest was a lot of fun!

The Inishowen An Garda Siochana spoke to the crowd about the life of the police in Donegal and David Duriin and Sean McDaid of Irish Football taught us some great athletic tips!

We also had Debbie Benoit from The St. Louis Genealogical Society help St Louisans discover their roots!

The Irish Wolfhounds were a huge hit and we had scrapbooks of the Sister Cities student exchange and several people were interested in the LAOH and the history contest!

The Easter Uprising was an armed insurrection launched by Irish republicans in Dublin during Easter week of 1916, aiming to end British rule in Ireland and establish an Irish republic. It began on Easter Monday April 24, 1916 and lasted for six days, ending on April 29, 1916. While the rebellion was swiftly suppressed by the British army, it’s remembered as a pivotal event in the struggle for the Irish independence. This was held at Calvary Cemetery & Mausoleum 5239 W Florissant Ave, St. Louis, MO 63115….. 4.12.2026 ©2026 Bird Productions, Inc.

State LAOH Historian Stacy Burton and State Catholic Action Donna Tevlin from the LAOH St Patricks Division in St Charles MO presented biographies of Women in the Uprising
