A great group of people came out yesterday and today and we got a ton of work accomplished! We are so thankful for all of their help preparing this property for all those special individuals and families who will be coming out starting next week!

God even gave us some great cloud cover for the day!

Note that not everyone is pictured because some of them came Thursday and we even had another group doing construction on Wednesday but we appreciate you all too!

It definitely takes a village and God has given us a wonderful one❤️

Relationship always has to come first!

In this week’s episode with Maverick, I went out with the intention of picking up where we started off in our last session.

Quickly, I realized that wasn’t going to happen. When I put Maverick’s halter on, he started breathing heavily and it wasn’t because of the heat.

After a little troubleshooting, I realized that the heavy breathing came from anxiety. I also reflected that I neglected to spend enough time in our last session on what my friend Katy Pistol calls the friendship conversation and Maverick was feeling fearful of me pushing him too hard.

Again that little whisper came, and God showed me that unlike us humans, He always attempts to establish relationship before giving us instructions. We are the ones that get that backwards and try to push into doing things FOR Him instead of WITH Him.

With Maverick, changing my mindset meant taking a break from our agenda for the day, going in the shade, having that friendship conversation and, most importantly, sharing in some good old scratches.

We may not have accomplished much in the traditional sense but I believe today strengthened the foundation of relationship between us, which will be very important when it comes to connecting with our students during their sessions.

And for anyone reading this, I want to encourage you to slow down and pay attention to these slow moments, when God’s intention isn’t to give you a new command or instruction but just to give you whatever the human equivalent is of a few scratches around the ears. He wants to love on us more than we are capable of receiving!

“We love because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19

We’re excited to officially introduce the newest member of our herd, even though this sweet girl has actually been part of Blue Sky Acres since April!

Belle is a Quarter Horse mare with a gentle spirit and a heart for caring for others. Before coming to Blue Sky Acres, Belle lived with a family who cared deeply about animals. Over time, their circumstances changed, and with more animals than they were able to continue caring for, they made the difficult decision to find Belle a new home.

Belle has always had a special way of caring for people. She formed a strong bond with the family’s son, who had disabilities, and became known as a patient, steady, and trustworthy companion.

We’ve already seen glimpses of that same nurturing spirit in Belle. She has a quiet way of putting people at ease and we believe God has brought her to Blue Sky Acres for a purpose.

We’re so grateful Belle gets to be part of those moments.

Want to be part of Belle’s story?
You can sponsor Belle for $300/month, or join with others through a shared sponsorship starting at $30/month. Your support helps provide the care Belle needs while making it possible for her to continue serving the people who come to Blue Sky Acres.

Welcome to the herd, Belle!

How Grass Teaches Us About Trusting God’s Plan For Us

Grass is good! As a horse owner or manager, we spend a lot of time thinking about our fields, making sure everything is fertilized and there are as few w**ds as possible.

Our horses spend even more time thinking about grass because their faces are in it most of the day!

However, when we go to work with a horse, a horse with its head in the grass can now become a big frustration! We think that they are being disrespectful or rude and become frustrated.

I began to ponder all of this as I was working with this sweet guy, Maverick, who is a big fan of that green stuff!

Our horses have the very important job of connecting with people and being relational. My intention was to help Maverick walk in that purpose, starting by deepening his relationship with me as we prepare for sessions to start.

All he could see though, was something that He knew was good. He even knew that it would bring life! But what he did not see was that he has a bigger purpose and that I hold the plan for him to walk in that.

As I was pondering all of that in the round pen with him, God began whispering to me that I need to change how I see this fruit of the spirit, Self Control.

I’ve always thought of it as the discipline to keep from doing the wrong thing.

But as I was out with Maverick, I realized that Self Control is so much bigger. It’s not about resisting the bad but it’s about trusting that Gods “good” is better than I could possibly imagine and submitting to that.

I believe God wants us to have good things. Maybe grass isn’t all that exciting to some of us but other things are, things that even give us life!

But sometimes our pursuit of those things instead of submitting to God’s plan can cause us to actually miss His purpose for our lives.

So the next time you see some grass, think about self-control and let it remind you to trust our Creator a little bit more, even when it seems like He is asking you to let go of something good.

“The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.””
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We are blessed to welcome this amazing group of men, many of them from FBC Rincon, who have been out in the heat working hard to create shade for our animals. Their work may be behind the scenes but they always build the very best quality structures!

This building will soon become a shady refuge for our beloved highland cow, Cash.

We are so grateful to all of our volunteers with their various skill sets and how they operate with a spirit of excellence, giving their very best to bless Blue Sky Acres!

Preparing the Farm - Preparing our Hearts

We Need Your Help!

The countdown is on! In just a few weeks, we'll welcome participants and families back for another semester of the Blue Sky Moments Program beginning Monday, August 31.

Before that happens, we have two special Fall Session Prep Days, and we'd love for our volunteers, church friends, community partners, and anyone who enjoys serving to join us!

Thursday, August 27
Friday, August 28
8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

We'll begin each morning with a brief 10–15 minute time of prayer, asking God to prepare the hearts of our mentors, program families, volunteers, and horses for all He has planned this fall. As we prepare the property, we also want to prepare our hearts and dedicate this semester to Him.

There are projects for every skill level, including:

Mowing, w**d eating, trimming bushes, and debris cleanup
Cleaning and organizing the Activity Room and grooming supplies
Washing windows and freshening up the buildings
Painting benches and picnic tables
Washing equipment and other general property projects
If you have equipment such as a w**d eater, blower, pole saw, pressure washer, or other landscaping tools, please bring them along if you're able.

Whether you can stay for an hour or the entire morning, your time will make a tremendous difference. Together, we'll create a welcoming, peaceful place where healing, hope, and God's love can be experienced by every family who walks through our gates.

"Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain." — Psalm 127:1
