WHY ARE WE MARCHING ON IDOT TOMORROW?

Because this is only the beginning.

This march marks the beginning of our fight to restore our members’ faith in the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Last year’s employee survey told Illinois Department of Transportation what our members have been saying for years:

FIFTY PERCENT (50%) — HALF OF IDOT EMPLOYEES — FEEL OVERWHELMED BY THEIR CURRENT WORKLOAD.

We have raised concerns about staffing, workload and hiring with IDOT and CMS for years. Yet our members continue to be asked to do more with less.

Tomorrow, we march for a small group of Communication Center employees who have waited long enough.

They work the same hours.
They handle the same responsibilities.
They carry the same workload as employees in other full-time Communication Centers.

But because IDOT District 8 has failed to create full-time positions, these employees receive:

LESS PAY.
LESS BENEFITS.
LESS VACATION.
AND THEY PAY MORE FOR HEALTH INSURANCE.

That is not a workforce problem.

That is a leadership problem.

And this fight is bigger than one Communication Center.

Our members are sick and tired of being sick and tired — tired of chronic understaffing, tired of positions going unfilled, tired of watching bargaining-unit work be outsourced, and tired of being told to carry heavier workloads while meaningful solutions never seem to come.

Tomorrow is about these Communication Center employees.

But tomorrow is also a warning that this is just the beginning.

There is WAY, WAY more to come.

‼️Stand Up for IDOT District 8 Communication Center Workers‼️

For years, IDOT District 8 Management has refused to recognize the critical role played by the employees who keep Illinois motorists safe.

Communication Center employees are the lifeline of IDOT operations coordinating emergency responses, monitoring roadway conditions, dispatching resources, and protecting the traveling public 24 hours a day.

Yet despite their essential work, District 8 continues to deny its remaining five communication center employees' full-time status, fair wages, and full-time benefits.

THE FACTS

✅ Communication Centers are vital to IDOT and the motoring public.

✅ The largest operations are:

District 1 (Schaumburg)

Central Bureau (Station 1- Springfield)

District 8 (Collinsville)

✅ District 1 and Central Bureau are ALL FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES

✅ Every other IDOT district provides at least one full-time Communication Center employee because management recognizes these positions are essential.

❌ District 8 Management refuses to do the same.

❌ Five dedicated employees continue to receive lower wages, reduced benefits, and higher out-of-pocket costs simply because management refuses to act.

At a time when IDOT is facing severe staffing shortages, it is unacceptable that District 8 Management continues to suppress these jobs instead of strengthening them.

OUR DEMAND

We demand that IDOT District 8 Management:

Make the remaining Communication Center employees full-time immediately.

Provide the wages and benefits these essential workers have earned.
End the unequal treatment of District 8 Teamsters.

Invest in recruitment and retention by creating good, full-time Teamster jobs.

We will march together on Wednesday, August 12th to deliver this petition signed by Members directly to District 8 Management.

This is our opportunity to show that Teamsters across Illinois stand united behind these workers.

Enough excuses.

Enough unequal treatment.

Enough suppressing essential jobs. Fair Jobs. Fair Wages. Fair Benefits.

When management refuses to listen to one worker... they'll hear all of us.

Join Teamsters Local 916 as we proudly walk in the Illinois State Fair Parade on Thursday, August 13th!

Be part of the fun, show your Teamster pride, and represent our union in one of Springfield’s biggest events of the summer!

Date: Thursday, August 13th
Event: Illinois State Fair Parade
Who: Teamsters Local 916 members and their families!
Line up: #33

Parade line-up will take place at Lincoln Park, 1601 N. 5th Street, Springfield, IL 62702 at 5:00pm with the parade starting at 5:30pm.
Shirts will be available on a first come, first served basis and can be picked up at the hall starting on Monday, August 10th between the hours of 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m.

Please note there is no parking allowed in the park. The parade will end on the north end of the fairgrounds.
