Join us for The Pillars of Democracy: Unite & Rise Tour Artist Workshop at the Old State Capitol on May 16.

Designed for teens and adults, this interactive workshop invites participants to explore identity, voice, and civic engagement through art-making and conversation. Led by artist Niki Johnson, teens create expressive artwork while reflecting on what democracy means to them and their role in shaping the future.

The workshop will be free and open to the public. It will take place on the lawn of the Old State Capitol during the art fair from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be moved indoors to the Old State Capitol’s Law Library Room.

The Pillars of Democracy: Unite & Rise Tour Springfield appearance is made possible through a collaboration between the League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund, Illinois Humanities, Healing Illinois, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

The Illinois State Museum, part of the IDNR family of sites, invites the public to get their kicks at a new "Miles of Memories: Stories of Route 66" exhibit opening Saturday, May 23. The exhibition brings to life the experience of living, working and traveling along U.S. Route 66 during its heyday.

The exhibit incorporates the museum’s Route 66 Oral History Project, a collection of 100 interviews with people who experienced the road when it served as the primary route between Chicago and Los Angeles. Visitors can listen to excerpts from these firsthand accounts throughout the exhibit.

What it is:
A paid internship for students age 16 - 22 who will support the Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series and other SAAC summer programs beginning May 28.

What you’ll do:
• Be on-site at every Levitt AMP concert
• Help run the show from behind the scenes
• Support event coordination and audience experience accross all summer programs
• Gain real-world experience in live arts programming

Our interns are a key part of making Levitt AMP Springfield happen each week. If you want hands-on experience in live events and love being part of the energy of concert nights, this is for you ✨
