Alleghany County Rescue Squad

Alleghany County Rescue Squad Alleghany Rescue Squad provides specialized rescue and emergency medical services for the citizens a We are nonprofit, and we are fully volunteer.

The Alleghany County Rescue Squad was established in 1969 with a group of 20 people wanting to make a difference in the lives of the citizens of Alleghany County. The Squad was organized after an unfortunate fatal automobile accident occurred just north of Sparta in which the two teenage victims were trapped and no specialized rescue or emergency medical services existed in the county at the time.

Due to the extended length of time it took to extricate the vicitms from the car, their lives were lost. Alleghany County Rescue Squad was formed to help prevent another tragic story such as this from occurring. The rescue squad relies on donations from the citizens of the county to continue to provide services - which are provided at no cost to victims. The Alleghany Rescue Squad is on-call for response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We are ready to respond to any event, from a person needing an ambulance for a medical call, to an automobile accident with victims trapped, to a lost hiker off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, to a drowning victim on New River, to a rock climber in trouble in Stone Mountain State Park.

🚨 SCHOOL IS BACK — PLEASE USE CAUTION! 🚌

Alleghany County Rescue would like to remind everyone that school is back in session. Our morning and afternoon commutes now include school buses, student drivers, parents, and children waiting along our roadways.

Please slow down, stay alert, avoid distractions, and allow yourself a little extra time. Watch carefully for stopped school buses and children entering or crossing the roadway.

🚑 REMEMBER: WHEN EMERGENCY VEHICLES APPROACH

When you see emergency lights or hear sirens approaching:

➡️ SLOW DOWN
➡️ MOVE SAFELY TO THE RIGHT
➡️ COME TO A STOP AND ALLOW THE EMERGENCY VEHICLE TO PASS

Those few seconds can make a difference when first responders are trying to reach someone who needs help.

Watch out for our kids. Watch out for our first responders. Let’s keep Alleghany County safe.
