There is no greater recognition than to hear a graduating senior, let alone a Salutatorian like Nate, mention Communities In Schools as a local non-profit that has made a positive impact on students from our community.

Thank you Nate for including our organization as one deserving of mention, as you highlighted those whose efforts are helping students prepare to receive their diplomas and lead fulfilling lives.

Congratulations to you and to all our graduating seniors across Brunswick County in the Class of 2026!

By supporting students today, we’re investing in the future of North Carolina.

The more students succeed, the stronger our communities become. When we embrace students for who they are, meet students where they're at and give students what they need to succeed, the result is stronger academic achievement, more graduates, a more robust workforce, a more prosperous economy and thriving communities.

A new study from Harvard showed a direct correlation between improved test scores, higher graduation rates, increased economic mobility for students, and increased federal tax revenue when CIS is present in schools.

There’s no substitute for showing up.

When students know someone believes in them and is there to support them, it can make all the difference in their journey through school. CIS Success Coaches provide that steady, caring presence for students who need it most.

Together, we can help more students stay present in school and reach graduation day. We are proud that every year 99% of the students with whom we work are successfully promoted to the next grade at the end of the school year, putting them one step closer to graduation and a bright future!

Behind every student success story is a network of support—and most often a dedicated CIS Success Coach helping guide the way.

CIS Success Coaches work directly with students to understand their individual needs, connect them with resources and encourage them to reach their goals. Their support helps students stay focused, confident and on track to graduate.

This week we will say good bye to over 550 students our Success Coaches have served in nine Brunswick County schools this year. Some will move on to high school and some will return in August to their elementary or middle school for a new school year and will continue working with their Success Coach.

We wish everyone a safe and happy summer and thank you for the privilege of working with you this school year!

Here is the CIS difference:

During the ‘24-’25 school year in Brunswick County:

99% of students who worked with a CIS Success Coach were promoted to the next grade
82% of students who received academic tutoring, behavior, attendance, or life skill interventions made measurable progress or fully achieved their goals

Being Present Matters and we're equally proud of all our students' accomplishments this year as well. This school year may be coming to a close but we are busy planning summer mini-camp experiences for our elementary students and preparing for the next school year to begin in August 2026. We need your support to ensure we can continue to be present in schools every day to meet the needs of over 500 students who attend our local schools here in Brunswick County. Join us in keeping the momentum going— https://www.cisbrunswick.org

Today we celebrate International Family Day! Families can take many forms but what matters most is that they provide love, support, and nurturing to the children within their sphere of influence.
As schools and community organizations like CIS work to support student success, it is vital that students' families are active partners in this endeavor. While children spend a good portion of their week at school, family is the true constant in their lives and a tremendous determinant of the quality of their lives and how they learn to navigate the world around them and make good decisions.
We applaud the families that are active partners in their student's educational journey and encourage those who may struggle with knowing the best way to support their student, to reach out to a teacher, CIS Success Coach, or school counselor to help navigate the best way to help ensure their child's success. Together, we can help students achieve great things and be prepared for bright futures!

Communities In Schools of Brunswick County thanks the St. James Service Club for the generous grant award given today to support our mini summer camps for students attending four high-need elementary schools where we provide our Action for Success Program. This grant will allow CIS to offer these camps during June for the second year in a row, as a direct result of the St James Service Club's grant awards and their ongoing commitment to youth in Brunswick County.

The St. James Service Club awarded funding to 37 local non-profits today at their annual Brunch and Community Grants Award gathering and CIS is humbled to be included in those 37 organizations that received funding.

The St. James Service Club is a tremendous fundraising vehicle that works throughout the year to raise funds within their community to support the needs of residents throughout Brunswick County of all ages and circumstances. We thank them for always being in our community as part of their focus!

When our CIS Success Coaches meet students where they are and provide them with the supports they need to succeed, the result is stronger academic achievement, more graduates, a more robust workforce, a more prosperous economy and thriving communities.

It's a win-win on every level. Your investment can be the reason why a student has access to the support and resources they need to succeed in school and beyond.

As we close out the school year, you can join us in ensuring our students have the support they need to take the next step in their educational journey: https://www.cisbrunswick.org

CIS is the very grateful recipient of a recent large donation of program snacks from the Brunswick County Association of Realtors Cares Foundation. Christian Kohler, who sits on their Board of Directors, reached out to CIS back in March to identify a specific CIS need so that the Brunswick County Association of Realtors Cares Foundation (BCAR) could put together a collection drive to help us meet our students' needs.

The Brunswick County Association of Realtors Cares Foundation held a snack drive and collected for us during the month of April. This past week, Kimberly Fleming and Dayna Erwin met with our Program Director, Drew Jordan, to deliver the collected snacks, which will benefit Brunswick County students who participate in the CIS Action for Success Program at nine local schools.

Thank you to BCAR Cares Foundation for being # AllinforKids in Brunswick County! You are making a real difference in your community!

Skye Owens, CIS Success Coach at Bolivia Elementary, was the delighted recipient of notes and snacks as gifts from some of her caseload students for Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week. She did not expect to be included in the appreciation week but to receive gifts from her students shows the relationships Skye and our other Success Coaches build with students are important and make a difference for these students. It is truly the mutually respectful and trusting relationships developed between a student and his/her Success Coach that makes our work with students so successful.

CIS recognizes and thanks all of its school-based staff for the tremendous work they do every day to support students and their families, ensuring all students, regardless of personal circumstance, have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in school and beyond.
