The South Atlantic Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was established in 1960. The Goldsboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on October 23, 1965. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Bla

ck community. is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its’ founding more than 300,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women. The sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, the Arabian Gulf, Southern Africa and West Africa. The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. GAC along with the other D9 and community partners participated in North Drive’s 3rd Annual Bicycle and Helmet Essay Giveaway. This hugely successful event was organized by NDE staff members which included our sorority members, Makita Jenkins and Wilma Body-Baker. The smiles on the students’ faces says it all.

GAC participation in the 71st Annual Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni and Friends Memorial Day Parade was weather perfect, fun and high-spirited. This year, we joined as a group under the gold-Wayne Panhellenic Council. some walked and some rode, but we all had fun waving to friends, families and supporters along the parade route.
Following the DGAF parade, some of our members ventured out to the Central/Eastern Wayne Alumni Parade and were delighted to see our Miss Jabberwock participating and showing off that elegant queenly wave.

Part 2 (May Week)
The Arts & Letters Committee led by Kariana Taylor, planned a wonderful May Week Celebration, “Elevating Excellence in Our Community”. The celebration recognized outstanding community leaders including Barbara Jones of ArtXecute, Danny King of ADLA, and Ben Johnson, a retired music teacher and choir director.
Members who provided explemary voluntary service were also recognized along with the presentation of the Distinguished Soror of the Year to Judy Dees.

As part of our May WeekCelebration. GAC members along with other community and Greek letter organizations participated in the 5th Annual Two Wheelers for Tommy, a program of Kriquette’s Kids, which gifted new bicycles to more than 50 families of Goldsboro. Community service work is always rewarding.

May was a busy month for the Deltas. Our two youth initiatives, GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) and tutoring at West Haven Housing have come to an end. The GEMS ended their year with a sorority member presenting on mental health. They were encouraged to make a grounding playlist that they listened to while completing their wood coloring activity. Our four seniors received their parting gifts along with our best wishes in their future endeavors. Our tutoring session ended with students receiving back their Flat Stanley/Stella after they visited loved ones on the East Coast. Stanley/Stella visited people in SC, the DMV and many cities in NC. The students learned many interesting facts about the cities visited. Their last session ended with a scrumptious ice cream bar. Part 1 of our May Activities. To be continued..
