Mentor Moment with Mellisa Holt with Home Sweet Holt

Don’t confuse a slow season with a failing business.

Mellisa reminded us that as entrepreneurs, it’s easy to judge our success by what’s happening right now—how many calls came in, how many clients said yes, or how much we sold this month.

But some of the most important work doesn’t pay off today.

It’s the relationship you’re building.
The follow-up nobody has answered—yet.
The post that only got five likes.
The person quietly watching how consistently you show up.

You don’t always get to see which seed is going to grow.

Keep planting. Keep following up. Keep serving people well.

What a great presentation from Maria Carlton at TALKS today!

Maria reminded us that building a successful business takes time, traction, and brand recognition. But she wasn't just talking about your company logo or advertising. She was talking about your personal brand.

Your personal brand is how people experience you—and what they tell others about you when you're not in the room.

And I loved her message about joy in the workplace. Joy isn't just a nice bonus. It can be part of building stronger teams, better relationships, and a business people want to work with.

That's a great reminder of why relationships matter so much in networking. People remember how you make them feel, not just what you sell.

Bob Gentile reminded us that the real secret to networking isn’t collecting business cards or asking, “Who can send me business?”

It’s asking:
“Who can I help?”

Strong networking comes from showing up, following up, learning about the person behind the business, and building trust over time.

Don’t just build contacts. Build relationships.
Because at the end of the day, business is P2P — person to person.

Last week, TALKS members traded networking for a little hands-on service as we volunteered with the Richmond County Rescue Mission. ❤️

And judging by the pictures, we weren’t afraid to get a little dirty! Scraping walls, pulling trim, cleaning up—and apparently even working from the floor when necessary. 😂

This is what TALKS is about. We don’t just build business connections. We build relationships, support our communities, and show up when there’s work to be done.

A big thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy. Proud to see TALKS making a difference beyond our Wednesday morning meetings!

🌳 You inherited the farm… now what?

Yesterday, Angela Cummings Thompson Thompson with the Angela Thompson Group of KW Pinehurst Angela Thompson Group gave us a sneak peek at a seminar she is developing around a situation many families eventually face—inheriting land.

With years of experience and extensive knowledge of land and real estate, Angela understands that selling land isn't the same as selling a house. There can be a lot to consider before deciding what to do with property that has been passed down through a family.

Do you keep it? Sell it? Divide it? Develop it? What is the land actually worth—and what do you need to know before making a decision?

Angela's approach isn't simply about getting a property listed. It's about helping families understand what they have, explore their options, and make an informed decision about something that may represent generations of family history.

That's exactly why having an experienced land expert in your corner matters.

✨ Monday Mentor Moment ✨

Angela Thompson Group of KW Pinehurst reminded us that routines aren’t about making life rigid—they’re about making life easier.

Small routines can reduce stress, eliminate some of the daily decision-making, and help us build momentum toward bigger goals.

One line especially stood out:

“If it’s not on your calendar, it doesn’t exist.”

And maybe the best place to start isn’t where life is already running smoothly. It’s the part of your day that always seems to turn into chaos. 😅

Great presentation this morning from Fred Tilley with Alarm Technologies Technologies!

Fred reminded us that technology should be about solving problems, not simply selling the biggest or fastest system.

He shared real examples of how his team is using Starlink, security cameras, networking, fire and water detection, monitoring, and home automation to help homeowners and businesses—especially in places where traditional internet or other technology just isn't getting the job done.

One example that really stood out was using Starlink as a backup for a business where internet outages mean lost money. He also showed how today's alarm systems can protect against much more than a break-in—fire, gas and water problems can be detected before they become much bigger problems.

And apparently, if your dinosaur breaks down, Fred can handle that too. 🦖😂
