Volunteer of the Month

If you look for the person most likely to be everywhere at once for the Parent Care Collective, you’ll find Kris. Whether she’s in her car traveling between volunteer sites or jumping into a new role on a moment’s notice, Kris is the definition of dependable. She ensures that no detail is overlooked and no call for help goes unanswered. Her presence provides a sense of stability and warmth that resonates throughout our entire organization.

Kris is a person who doesn’t just "know the ropes" and she’s often the one helping us make them. Her flexibility and willingness to step into any needed role have made her an invaluable asset to our team.

She is ready at a moment's notice to help with any task.

Kris, thank you for the countless hours you pour into our community. You make everything run smoother, and we are so grateful to have you with us.

The deaths in Inver Grove Heights were not distant news to us.

They were our people. Our neighbors. They went to school with us. They lived their lives alongside us. They shopped at the same stores, drove the same streets, and were part of the same community we call home.

We apologize for taking some time to respond. We needed to make sure family had been made aware, respect the privacy of those directly impacted, and think carefully about how we could respond in a way that might actually help. We also wanted our M.Psych to review and provide input on the mental health information we shared.

There are no perfect words for a tragedy like this. But we can remind each other that community means paying attention to one another, especially when life gets heavy.

We’ve put together When Life Feels Heavy: Signs, Support & Hope — a short resource with places to turn for help, signs that someone may be struggling, and ways we can show up for one another.

Depression does not always look like sadness. Sometimes there are obvious signs. Sometimes there are none. You do not need a reason or a warning sign to check on someone you love.

Send the text. Make the plan. Sit with them. Ask the uncomfortable question. Keep showing up.

And if you are the one struggling, please know there are people who want you here.

Take care of yourselves. Take care of your neighbors. Take care of each other.

Our shelves are talking, and right now they’re saying: HELP. 😬

We’re at Parent Care Collective today and are very low on a few supplies our neighbors regularly need:

🍼 Nursing & postpartum supplies: breast pads, milk storage bags, ni**le cream, nursing/pumping supplies
💜 Adult diapers & incontinence supplies: all sizes
🐾 Pet supplies: dog food, cat food, litter and other basics

These may not be the first things you think of when donating, but for the person who needs them, they’re not extras.

A parent should be able to care for themselves while feeding their baby.
An adult should have access to basic hygiene and dignity.
And when a family is struggling, their pets still need to eat too.

If you’re out shopping this week, throw one extra item in your cart for a neighbor. Small things add up quickly when a whole community shows up.

🩸 PERIOD CARE WEEK

Periods don’t stop because money is tight.

This week, Parent Care Collective is focusing on period care! Pads, tampons, liners, and other menstrual products that our neighbors need every single month.

When a family is choosing between groceries, diapers, gas, rent, and toiletries, period products can become one more expense they simply can’t stretch the budget to cover.

And they aren’t optional.

Period products are basic necessities. Period.

Help us stock our shelves this week so when someone asks, we can simply say: Yes, we have that.

Donate period products.
Donate funds so we can purchase what we’re missing.
Share this post and help us fill the shelves.

🛒 Going to Costco today?

If you’re already making a Costco run, consider adding one extra item to your cart for Parent Care Collective.

Right now, Costco is one of the cheapest places to grab some of our most-needed items:

🥫 Canned chicken
🧻 Toilet paper
👶 Baby wipes

Our numbers have grown, because more of our neighbors are struggling and we want to keep saying yes when families ask for help.

Every pack of wipes, every case of toilet paper, and every can of chicken helps us stretch our dollars and keep families stocked with the basics.

There is no age requirement for caring about your neighbors.

When kids volunteer, they learn that helping doesn’t have to be complicated. You can stock a shelf. Carry a box. Sort some supplies. Pack a bag.

They learn that some families have more and some have less and that neither determines their worth.

Most importantly, they learn that when someone in our community needs help, we show up.

Every week we pack supplies to help families get through the week. Today it’s laundry pods.

It doesn’t take a special skill to volunteer. Sometimes it’s as simple as filling a bag and that small act means a family can wash their clothes this week.

Little tasks. Big impact.
