Some of our staff and members are volunteering at our national AFL-CIO convention that is being held NOW right here in Minnesota. So many of our members, including Executive Director Bart Andersen are working hard to do the business of our AFL CIO, networking, and will debate resolutions that impact our labor union movement. This latest executive order REPEALS “JUST CAUSE” discipline language from thousands more federal workers and allows the Administration to fire them at will. This is an attack on worker’s rights! 😡

President Trump's executive order to replace federal workers with loyalists betrays a foundational American value: that our government works for the people, not for a political agenda.

💔 Please come to honor and celebrate Khalid’s life and legacy that lives on in all of us and pay your respect to his wife, family, friends, and all who love Khalid. If you are unable to attend, please keep Khalid and his memory in your thoughts.

Please note: Our South St. Paul office and Member Action Center will be closed starting at 3pm tomorrow for staff to be able to attend the service.

The AFSCME Council 5 Executive Board, representing our 43,000 union members, has voted to endorse Amy Klobuchar for Governor!

Amy truly understands what working people need to move our state forward where no-one is left behind. We must invest in frontline workers who deliver critical services in every zip code, stop privatizing and outsourcing services that belong in public hands with accountability, and ensuring all parts of our state receive the investments we need to grow and thrive.

With Amy as our next Governor, our right to collectively bargain, form a union and be strong union activists, work and retire with dignity and retirement security will be secured for Minnesota's working class, retirees, and all of our neighbors. We will work together to improve the lives of working people, stop fraud and privatizing public services, and invest in materially improving people's lives.

💔💔💔 “Our AFSCME Council 5 family is in mourning. It is with unimaginable sadness and heartbreak to share that we lost our union brother and AFSCME Council 5 Field Representative Khalid Abdi today, who was shot and killed while attending an Eid prayer gathering in Shakopee. It is so hard to believe and comes as an absolute shock to our hearts.

“Our union has offered and pledges our unwavering support to Khalid’s family through this incredibly difficult and painful time. We stand with them every step of the way.

“We are a family and every single loss is deeply felt across our union family, staff, members, and allies alike.

“Khalid will be forever remembered for his tenacious organizing spirit, his warm and inviting presence, and his unyielding passion and drive to fight for the working-class and all historically marginalized communities. His mentorship of countless workers, defending contract language and workers' rights, and the collective bargaining agreements he negotiated alongside workers will last a lifetime.
