🚨BREAKING🚨 SEIU Minnesota State Council Endorse Amy Klobuchar for Governor
SAINT PAUL – The SEIU Minnesota State Council, bringing together over 70,000 workers in Minnesota from across the state's largest and most powerful unions, is proud to announce the endorsement of Amy Klobuchar for Governor of Minnesota. SEIU members work in healthcare, education, property services and more in every corner of the state and are planning a robust push in 2026 to elect pro-worker candidates up and down the ballot in Minnesota.
Yvonne Gbeior, a nursing home CNA from Minneapolis and member of SEIU Healthcare MN & IA, shared why she supports Amy:
"Nursing home workers have been pushing for years to improve our pay and benefits to ensure we have enough staff to care for our residents. After talking with Amy Klobuchar, I'm confident she will champion our industry's workers, fight for the funding we need, and ensure that money sent to nursing homes reaches the frontline care workers. I'm excited our union is endorsing Amy and I look forward to when she wins this race so we can get to work improving the nursing home industry for workers and residents!"
Lori Goth, a special ed para in St. Michael and member of SEIU Local 284, shared why school staff like her are supporting Amy:
“I am someone who votes for the person, not the party. After meeting with Amy and sharing my story about how healthcare costs are hurting my family and school staff across the state, it’s clear Amy Klobuchar is the best choice to be the next Governor of Minnesota. Skyrocketing healthcare costs are hurting school staff and students alike, and hearing her support for finding a solution like the statewide insurance pool for educators makes me excited to get her elected and start the work to address this crisis.”
Said Mohamed, a rideshare driver and member of SEIU Local 26 Driver Organizing Committee, shared his excitement for SEIU endorsing Amy Klobuchar for Governor:
"Minnesota rideshare drivers appreciated Amy coming to visit our waiting lot, hearing about the challenges drivers are facing and listening to why we are fighting to change the law so we can vote on whether to form a union like most other workers. We're looking forward to helping get Amy elected Governor and then working together to finally update the law so drivers can vote on having a union."
Kristen Medhanie, DNP, APRN, CNP and a member of Doctors Council Minnesota-SEIU, shared why she was proud of her union's endorsement:
"As primary and urgent care clinicians, we proudly endorse Amy Klobuchar for Minnesota Governor. We deeply appreciate her tireless work to improve healthcare across our state and nation. We envision a future that prioritizes equitable, accessible, and affordable primary care—keeping patients out of hospitals and providers at the bedside. We need to reimagine healthcare so patients are not facing bankruptcy from medical bills, and providers are not leaving due to burnout. Amy is the leader to get this done.”
Senator Klobuchar met with union members and leaders multiple times leading up to the endorsement, learning about the issues and priorities facing SEIU members and their families from across Minnesota.
