DNC Concessions Workers at Target Field to Announce Strike

WHO: Concessions workers - employed by Delaware North Company (DNC) - who serve Twins fans food and drinks at Target Field. The nearly 500-person unit is represented by UNITE HERE Local 17, Minnesota’s hospitality workers union.

WHAT: A press conference outside Target Field where workers will announce the date for a strike.

WHERE: 1 Twins Way, Minneapolis, MN 55403

WHEN: Thursday, June 11 at 10:15 am

WHY: DNC concessions workers at Target Field make minimum wage and do not have access to healthcare through their employer. They are fighting for a new contract with fair wages, affordable healthcare, and job protections.

On May 1, workers voted by 81% to authorize a strike if necessary.

The bargaining committee for Local 17 has been committed to avoiding a strike through good faith bargaining. Unfortunately, the company has not had that same commitment and has forced the committee to authorize a strike.

NOTE: Workers will be available for interviews after the press conference.

As summer approaches, we want to remind our members that unemployment insurance (UI) is available during summer break.

This benefit became possible after 20 years of our advocacy and political action and it remains protected in state law and funded by the state of Minnesota.

We won this. We need this for our students, staff, and schools.

On the last day of the Minnesota Legislature’s 2026 session, lawmakers voted to fund a data collection project to study the spiraling health insurance costs for Minnesota school districts – a first step in reforming the health insurance program for school district employees as a whole.

We’re heartbroken to hear of the passing of Khalid. During his time as an organizer-in-training with us, he brought passion, kindness, and a deep commitment to working people. We’re grateful to have known and worked alongside him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone at AFSCME Council 5 during this loss.

This legislative session, educators, students, and working families scored important wins, and we’re making sure our members know who stood with us.

✅ Districts will be required to report healthcare expenditures, giving us the data we need to keep fighting for affordable, high-quality coverage through a statewide health insurance pool called EGIP. Passed with bipartisan support.

✅ Title I paras can now use the same competency grid as Special Education paras to meet federal standards. Passed with bipartisan support.

✅ $40 million secured to help families impacted by Operation Metro Surge, inflation, and trade wars stay in their homes. Passed with bipartisan support.

❌ A bill requiring ICE to notify school administration and present a judge-signed warrant before enforcement on school grounds failed. Every Democrat voted yes. Every Republican voted no.

Our 2026 legislative report card shows exactly who is fighting for educators, students, and safe schools, and who isn’t.

🚨BREAKING🚨 SEIU Minnesota State Council Endorse Amy Klobuchar for Governor

SAINT PAUL – The SEIU Minnesota State Council, bringing together over 70,000 workers in Minnesota from across the state's largest and most powerful unions, is proud to announce the endorsement of Amy Klobuchar for Governor of Minnesota. SEIU members work in healthcare, education, property services and more in every corner of the state and are planning a robust push in 2026 to elect pro-worker candidates up and down the ballot in Minnesota.

Yvonne Gbeior, a nursing home CNA from Minneapolis and member of SEIU Healthcare MN & IA, shared why she supports Amy:

"Nursing home workers have been pushing for years to improve our pay and benefits to ensure we have enough staff to care for our residents. After talking with Amy Klobuchar, I'm confident she will champion our industry's workers, fight for the funding we need, and ensure that money sent to nursing homes reaches the frontline care workers. I'm excited our union is endorsing Amy and I look forward to when she wins this race so we can get to work improving the nursing home industry for workers and residents!"

Lori Goth, a special ed para in St. Michael and member of SEIU Local 284, shared why school staff like her are supporting Amy:

“I am someone who votes for the person, not the party. After meeting with Amy and sharing my story about how healthcare costs are hurting my family and school staff across the state, it’s clear Amy Klobuchar is the best choice to be the next Governor of Minnesota. Skyrocketing healthcare costs are hurting school staff and students alike, and hearing her support for finding a solution like the statewide insurance pool for educators makes me excited to get her elected and start the work to address this crisis.”

Said Mohamed, a rideshare driver and member of SEIU Local 26 Driver Organizing Committee, shared his excitement for SEIU endorsing Amy Klobuchar for Governor:

"Minnesota rideshare drivers appreciated Amy coming to visit our waiting lot, hearing about the challenges drivers are facing and listening to why we are fighting to change the law so we can vote on whether to form a union like most other workers. We're looking forward to helping get Amy elected Governor and then working together to finally update the law so drivers can vote on having a union."

Kristen Medhanie, DNP, APRN, CNP and a member of Doctors Council Minnesota-SEIU, shared why she was proud of her union's endorsement:

"As primary and urgent care clinicians, we proudly endorse Amy Klobuchar for Minnesota Governor. We deeply appreciate her tireless work to improve healthcare across our state and nation. We envision a future that prioritizes equitable, accessible, and affordable primary care—keeping patients out of hospitals and providers at the bedside. We need to reimagine healthcare so patients are not facing bankruptcy from medical bills, and providers are not leaving due to burnout. Amy is the leader to get this done.”

Senator Klobuchar met with union members and leaders multiple times leading up to the endorsement, learning about the issues and priorities facing SEIU members and their families from across Minnesota.
