Fun local event coming up on June 14th. If you are a river user (or you want to be one), you should be there. Casual, super-friendly group. No pressure, no formality. Just fun people and good information provided for this annual event. This year's celebration will happen on the riverfront in IGH.

Presented by a local Newport nonprofit group who work hard to keep the river clean, safe, and navigable, and to represent the interests of recreational river users. Please join us!

Donations of fresh produce to the Friends In Need Food Shelf this season from the Newport on the Move giving garden at the Newport Community Garden site were the highest to date!

Our contribution this year was particularly important. Client numbers have increased from an average of 130 families/week last fall to an average of 185 families/week this fall (40% increase). In addition, another major contributor of produce, Guardian Angels Giving Garden, was not operating this year.

If you have some time to donate to this wonderful project, please consider volunteering at the garden next season. It's a great experience, and a great cause!

A nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) will take place today, October 4th, 2023, at 1:18pm. If your mobile phone is powered on and receiving service from a participating wireless provider, you should receive an emergency alert message, sound and vibration. Wireless providers will transmit the national test for 30 minutes, but your phone should only receive it once. TV, radios, and other wireless devices will also receive a similar alert.

The message will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

The national test will help ensure that Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) continue to be effective ways to warn the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. It is a required test conducted every three years and you cannot opt out of the alert.

🚨This test will follow the monthly tornado siren test also scheduled for Washington County today at 1:00pm.

If you have questions about the WEA/EPS test, please visit FEMA's FAQ page at https://shorturl.at/tzMS5
