Whiz Kids is about more than reading.

Every week, volunteers spend one hour with an elementary student, helping them grow in literacy while building confidence and meaningful relationships.

Because what sparks change isn't just learning to read. It's having someone who shows up, week after week, believing in you.

If you've got one hour to give, consider becoming a Whiz Kids tutor. Sign up today by visiting www.joshuasplace.cc/get-involved

Our Food Co-Op is about so much more than groceries.

One of the greatest gifts of our work is walking alongside families through every season of life. Many families first connect with us through programs like Whiz Kids, Reading Recovery, or Summer Camp, and we get to continue supporting them through our adult developmental programs.

At Food Co-Op, families receive groceries, participate in classes, build relationships, and spend time in prayer with a coordinator who cares about their whole well-being.

Our goal has never been to simply provide food. It's to help individuals and families flourish, knowing they are supported, valued, and never walking alone.

Whiz Kids is about more than sharpening reading skills. It’s showing up for the same student week after week. Building trust, consistency, and the kind of confidence that carries into every part of their learning.

If you’re ready to invest in a child’s growth through steady, meaningful connection, we’d love to have you on our volunteer team. Sign up today by visiting www.joshuasplace.cc/get-involved.

Our Whiz Kids volunteers are more than tutors. They're cheerleaders. Being a volunteer means being here for the little moments, and encouraging people when they need it most.

One of our Whiz Kids volunteers told us, "I think anytime you can show a child that there are honest people, kind people, people who will build them up instead of tearing them down in this world, that’s special. Especially for kids who might not have that. If you can tell a kid, 'Hey, you’re a very cool kid,' that’s the most important part. It’s great that we help them with reading, but the relationship is so special."

Sometimes someone needs immediate help. And in those moments, relief matters.

But sometimes the most loving thing we can do is help someone take the next step forward. At Joshua’s Place, we want to meet people where they are while building relationships, encouraging growth, and creating opportunities that can lead to greater stability.

Because helping isn’t only about today. It’s also about what comes next.

Small things. Real relationships. Over time. Eternal impact.

Every backpack starts with one student in mind.

We build each bag around their classroom list, making sure they have every supply their teacher asks for. It’s individualized support, created with care so that every child walks into school prepared and ready to thrive.

We are so grateful to Raymond Storage Concepts, Inc for volunteering with us! Their team helped sort and distribute 550 backpacks, delivering them to different Joshua’s Place locations so they could be handed out to students in our community.

Their willingness to give their time helped ensure these backpacks reached the families who needed them.

Because of our incredible partners at Rivers Crossing Church, 550 students will start the school year with everything they need to succeed. Their generous donation of 550 durable backpacks, each personalized to an individual classroom’s supply list and valued at approximately $70,000, ensures every student receives exactly what they need on day one.

This gift goes beyond school supplies. It removes barriers, supports families, and empowers students to walk into the classroom ready to learn. We are deeply grateful for this partnership and the heart Rivers Crossing continues to show our community.

We’re starting a new series called “Why We Do It This Way” to share the heart behind how we do ministry at Joshua’s Place.

We believe poverty is about more than material needs. It can also mean a lack of stability, opportunity, relationships, and belonging. That’s why we focus on more than meeting immediate needs. We build relationships and walk alongside people toward lasting change.

Small things. Real relationships. Over time. Eternal impact.

Many families have deep questions about life, faith, and purpose, and our Food Co‑Ops make room for those conversations. Our Alpha? Class is a welcoming series where participants gather around food, listen to a talk, and engage in honest, judgment‑free discussion about spiritual questions that matter.

It’s an opportunity to explore beliefs, connect with others, and grow through meaningful dialogue. The environment is open, relational, and designed to help families reflect on what they believe and why.

This work is possible because donors and volunteers believe in a model that supports both immediate needs and long‑term transformation. Your partnership helps families build stronger foundations for tomorrow.
