Safe Sitter® graduates know how to prevent injuries to themselves and others, handle common household emergencies, and safely care for younger children. The program teaches young teens the skills and knowledge needed to be safe babysitters. Young teens need training in first aid, indoor and outdoor safety, and handling household emergencies before being adequately prepared to stay home alone or watch younger siblings. 🛟 FRIDAY FEATURE 🛟

May is National Water Safety Month, and all month long we've been featuring some of our amazing Aquatic Department staff members each Friday. As we wrap up the month, don't forget to look back at some of the great safety tips we've shared on Mondays!! Today we're featuring someone who helps keep all our staff updated on the latest and greatest safety training: Arabella.

Arabella has been part of the Y staff since October 2022 and is currently our Safety Training Coordinator! She loves getting to teach lifeguarding and First Aid/ CPR classes, but her favorite part if getting to know everyone. "I love being able to interact with people of all kinds of backgrounds and lives," says Arabella. She recently played a large role in constructing our improved Emergency Action Procedures, which you might see hanging around our building red binders. When she's not here at the Y, you might find her at a Dayton Dragons baseball game, listening to music, or on a hike. If you see her around the Y, or you're lucky enough to have her train you on CPR/ AED, be sure to let her know how much we appreciate all she brings to our staff.

The YMCA is partnering with Special Olympics Ohio to offer the Young Athletes Program!! This class is designed to teach foundational sports skills, coordination, and teamwork skills for kids aged 2-5 years old. The class is designed to be adaptive (includes built-in modifications for children with special needs), but is available to any child who would benefit from the instruction!!

REMINDER: For the safety of ALL our members, children under 18 are not permitted in the Adult Locker Rooms at any time, for any reason, regardless if they are accompanied by an adult or not. 😕👎

Adults with children and anyone under 18 years old should use our Boys and Girls Locker Rooms or the Family Bathrooms located outside our locker rooms.
