Last Friday, our WCCS Early Learning Centers were ecstatic to receive a large donation of quality handcrafted toys for our ELC kiddos, made entirely by volunteers!

We are incredibly grateful to Craftsmen for Kids (www.craftsmenforkids.com), and especially to Bob and Ellen Cole, for their amazing donation of handcrafted wooden blocks and educational learning materials (valued at around $16,000!) that will benefit children across all of our Early Learning Centers. Craftsmen for Kids is a nonprofit organization committed to providing safe, quality wooden learning items to Head Start and other nonprofit programs serving children and families.

After unloading the toys, the children immediately begin exploring, building, and learning. Though Head Start receives federal funding, there are rarely enough funds for toys, books and other materials, which is why a large shipment of so many toys leads to so much excitement! Tammy, our Education Manager, said the whole experience was a joy, including seeing Bob watch the children play with his and other volunteers' craftsmanship.

These thoughtfully made toys will help spark creativity, imagination, and hands-on learning for so many children in our programs. We are truly thankful for the generosity and hearts of the Craftsmen for Kids volunteers, as well as the lasting impact they are making on the lives of children throughout Ohio.

This we’re celebrating the incredible impact of our Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers!

Sharon and Joe Rice are two of the 240 dedicated RSVP volunteers helping strengthen our community through service.

Last year alone, RSVP volunteers contributed 20,089 hours across 21 community partner sites throughout Warren County - hat’s the equivalent of an entire year of work from 10 full-time staff!

From supporting nonprofits and schools to assisting seniors and community programs, RSVP volunteers make a tremendous difference every single day. Their time, compassion, and dedication help our entire community thrive.

Thank you to Joe, Sharon, and all of our RSVP volunteers for the countless ways you give back to the community.

What do you get when you combine 47+ years of Head Start memories, former coworkers, literacy training, team-building games, laughter, and retirement cake? A pretty memorable day!

Last Friday, our Early Learning team gathered to celebrate the incredible career of Kathi, whose 47+ years with WCCS has impacted so many children and families. Kathi has worn many hats throughout the years - teacher, Site Supervisor, bus driver, Site Administrator, home visitor, and more!

We welcomed Kathi's family as well as several former leaders and coworkers to celebrate alongside her, including past Director Lisa Cayard, past Assistant Director Beth Heinkel, and past Education Manager Judy Butler.

The afternoon was filled with stories, laughter, memories, and celebrating the amazing impact passionate teachers have on young children and families.

We also kicked off the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Grant which focused on strengthening early literacy skills, helping to set children up for lifelong reading and writing success.

It was a wonderful day honoring Kathi while focusing on the incredible difference that Head Start makes in the future of children!

Families today are dealing with so much — bills, finding quality, affordable childcare, work schedules, helping children succeed in school, and simply trying to make ends meet.

On this International Day of Families, we want to encourage families throughout our community to know that you do not have to navigate it alone.

As Warren County’s Community Action Agency, WCCS is proud to walk alongside families through programs and services designed to support well-being and stability - From Head Start, to utility assistance, affordable housing, and literacy services. And if we do not provide the service you need, we can help you find it!
