Sawed the chuck of white oak out of a pallet from a semi truck. The nail holes add character. This oak was very dry and ...

Sawed the chuck of white oak out of a pallet from a semi truck. The nail holes add character. This oak was very dry and very hard. It required sharp gouges. I used it as a learning experience in texturing very hard wood. Texturing a cylinder tends to be more successful than the curve of a bowl. It took considerable pressure to cut the texture. The last picture was the result of finishing turning the bottom. The oak had a crack in the base and decided to separate. The base became a little smaller.
