Providing literary resources to underserved Chicago Southland/South Suburban Chicago and Chicago South Side communities.

Options for Literacy's mission is to promote literacy and academic excellence among BIPOC students of underserved Chicagoland/South Suburban Chicago communities through providing literary supports. As a plethora of research supports, we believe each additional book provided to a child has the power to influence their academic values, literacy skills, and personal growth. Our Grow Your Library program consists of providing books to schools, preschools, hospitals, and more to enable these organizations to develop literacy supports for students. We offer 100+ preschool through Young Adult titles for students, each focusing on positive cultural representation and inspiration. To support our efforts, please visit https://bit.ly/OFLDONATE1

Last month, Da Book Joint hosted a special Books & Brunch for Kids celebrating childhood literacy and cultural learning! ✨📚 During the event, children enjoyed hearing from author Jessica Newman as she shared her inspiring book Journey with Jessica: From Chicago to Ghana. The story took young readers on a vibrant adventure that highlighted the wonders of cultural exchange and the importance of literacy. The experience was amplified with drumming led by Victoria Boateng and Ghanaian cuisine by Chef Daniel.

We believe that fostering a love for reading opens doors to new worlds and endless possibilities for young learners. We can’t wait to continue inspiring young readers and celebrating the wonders of literacy—stay tuned for more literary opportunities for your child coming soon!
