Productive farmland, rocky lakeshore, woodlands and scenic vistas make South Hero a spectacular place to live and visit. A strong connection to the land is evident throughout the community, as people rely on the land and surrounding waters for jobs, food, recreation, and inspiration. Since 1997, South Hero Land Trust has worked to protect unique natural resources through land conservation efforts and community programs designed to connect people with the surrounding landscape.

thanks so much to everyone that helped us plant 130 trees over the last two days!

sad you missed it? don’t worry, there’s more! we’ll be planting 180 more trees on tuesday 11/3 from 1-4pm at the stream restoration site next to Two Heroes Brewery bring a friend and enjoy a drink after!

if we don’t get all the trees in on tuesday, we’ll finish up on wednesday 11/4. same place, same time!

South Hero Land Trust has two volunteer tree planting events coming up on October 29th and November 3rd. Come plant trees with us and help our lake!

Thursday 10/29 at 1-4 pm - in the Roy Marsh wetland buffer on a conserved farm. Meet at the Roy Marsh parking lot on Station Rd. Details: shlt.org/events/islandacrestreeplanting2026

We are excited to open the Islandacres Trail soon. However, please be aware that trail is CLOSED for hunting season and will not be open to the public until early 2027. We plan to have a soft opening in January (hope for snow!)

A huge thank you to everyone who has been working with us to develop the trail so far! If you still want to help out, we have another volunteer work party this Thursday where we’ll be building boardwalks! Donuts and apples provided: Visit https://www.shlt.org/ to learn more and RSVP.

Our next Conservation Block Party is coming to North Hero!

Join us Wednesday, September 30, from 4:30–6:00 PM at Camp Ingalls Butternut Hill Natural Area.

Enjoy food and conversation with friends and neighbors, then join Karen Bates, Master Naturalist and Basin Planner with Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, for an immersive nature walk exploring local habitats, wildlife, and ways we can build resilience on our own properties.

Come for the food and friends, stay for the nature!

We'll be building boardwalks and benches for the new Islandacres Trail this week, and would love your help!

Join us on Monday at 1pm at the Folsom School parking lot. No prior building experience required. We'll provide the tools, materials, and instructions (and possiblysome c***r donuts).

School may be starting back up, but the farmers’ market is still going strong. Be sure to swing by the Wednesday market (3 – 6pm in South Hero) or Saturday market (10am - 2pm in Grand Isle) to grab your fruits, veggies, and other local goodies!
