A huge thank you to Dan for rebuilding the gates at the 1st United Church Heart+Hand Community Garden! The frame went up today, and a section of privacy fencing will soon become our new gate!

Su***de prevention starts with knowing how to recognize when someone is struggling and having the skills and confidence to help.

Libera and LivingWorks are offering a two-day su***de prevention training in Charleston!

LivingWorks ASIST (Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training) teaches participants how to recognize warning signs, have difficult conversations, develop safety plans, and connect people with lifesaving support.

🎓 16 CEUs available for some professions

✅ FREE for Libera mentors and professionals working with youth ages 10–14!

This is a wonderful opportunity for social workers, educators, counselors, behavioral health professionals, and others who support our communities.

🥫 2026 CANNED FOOD DRIVE! 🥫

The City of South Charleston Public Works Department is proud to kick off its annual Canned Food Drive to benefit Heart + Hand Food Pantry!

Our goal is to collect 5,000 cans of food, and we need the community’s help to make it happen!

How You Can Donate:

Residents can place bags of canned goods and non-perishable food items on their front porches for collection by our garbage and recycling crews every Wednesday or on their regularly scheduled pickup day through November 19th.

For pickup assistance, contact Public Works at 304-744-5532.

Donation Drop-Off Locations:

• South Charleston Community Center – 601 Jefferson Road
• Public Works Office – 1103 Jefferson Road
• South Charleston City Hall – Corner of 4th Avenue & D Street
• South Charleston Fire Department – All Locations

PLEASE NOTE: All donated food items must be within their expiration dates.

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Family Assistance (BFA), will begin mailing applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) on November 2, 2026.

Mailing criteria include households that received regular LIEAP benefits during the previous season and those who:
Have a child under age 6
Are adults aged 60 and older
Are individuals with disabilities

The deadline to submit pre-LIEAP applications is November 25, 2026. Applications may be returned by mail, dropped off at a local DoHS office, or completed online at www.wvpath.org.

Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Households are encouraged to apply early.

All applicants who use a Public Service Commission (PSC)-regulated utility as their primary heating source must provide a current utility bill. Households that heat with bulk fuels are required to submit verification of their fuel supplier along with a receipt. The maximum LIEAP benefit is $2,000 per household.

The maximum allowable gross income for LIEAP for Federal Fiscal year 2027 are listed below:

For each additional person, add $710.
*Social Security & Veterans Benefits Excluded
