Trusses are going up at Purple Heart Village! Every step brings four Veteran families closer to a place to call home.

Next up: roof decking, roofing, and windows—and we need your help to keep moving! Individuals, businesses, churches, civic groups, and Veterans organizations can all be part of building this village.

It takes a village to build a village.

Somerset Community College showed up for our Veterans! 🇺🇸🔨

As part of KCTCS community service efforts, SCC students and faculty rolled up their sleeves at Purple Heart Village, helping us move closer to providing four Veteran families with a place to call home. We’re grateful for their hard work, time, and commitment to serving our community.

WHO’S NEXT? 👀

We need businesses, churches, civic groups, Veterans organizations, teams, and groups of friends to take a turn building with us. Bring your crew and put your time and talents to work for our Veterans!

Framing is complete at Purple Heart Village!

Next up: trusses and roof decking, followed by roofing and windows. Each step brings these homes closer to welcoming veterans here in Somerset.

It will require 4,800 volunteer hours to turn this vision into homes for four Veteran families at Purple Heart Village.

How many hours will be yours?
We need individuals, groups of friends, churches, Veterans groups, civic groups, and local businesses to help us build. Whether you can give a few hours or bring a crew for a full day, your time will help bring these families closer to home.

The walls are going up, and so is the excitement at our Purple Heart Veterans Village!

A HUGE thank you to Cumberland Church of Christ for showing up with an incredible group of volunteers to help raise the walls on the cottage they’re building!

It takes a community coming together to make affordable housing possible, and this group continues to show what it means to put faith into action.

Every wall raised brings us one step closer to welcoming another veteran into a safe, affordable place to call home.

We are so grateful for Cumberland Church of Christ and their continued partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County, KY!

Together, we’re building more than houses. We’re building homes, hope, and brighter futures.

This Is What Community Looks Like!

This photo brings together all three groups working at our Purple Heart Veterans Village this week: volunteers from Somerset Community College and Cumberland Church of Christ, alongside our general contractor, Mark Brown Construction, and their crew.

Each group plays an important role. Our contractor brings the professional skills and experience needed to move construction forward, while our volunteers give their time and talents to help make affordable homeownership possible.

Together, they’re helping turn four new cottages into homes for future Habitat homeowners, including Veterans.

A special thank you to Somerset Community College, Cumberland Church of Christ, and Mark Brown Construction for the important roles they play in this project. We’re also grateful for everyone working behind the scenes to help us build homes, communities, and hope!

Habitat for Humanity is rooted in Christian faith, but you don’t have to share our faith to share in our mission. Everyone is welcome!

Day 4 of KCTCS Week of Service, and things are moving right along!

From Somerset to Laurel County, Somerset Community College volunteers were hard at work today helping us build homes, communities, and hope!

In Laurel County, crews continued building sheds that will serve our veterans at the Purple Heart Veterans Village.

Meanwhile, in Somerset, volunteers were busy sealing a foundation and leveling gravel in a crawl space. These may not be the most exciting parts of construction, but they’re important steps toward building safe, lasting homes.

We also welcomed volunteers from Cumberland Church of Christ, who were preparing for their upcoming workday and jumped in to help our contractor put up walls on one of the cottages!

This week is part of a statewide partnership between KCTCS, Habitat for Humanity, and Bank of America, bringing education, hands-on experience, and community service together to make a difference across Kentucky.

We’re grateful to Bank of America for supporting this initiative, Somerset Community College for bringing volunteers together, and everyone who has rolled up their sleeves this week.

Different crews. Different projects. One mission.

Together, we’re building more than houses. We’re building homes, communities, and hope!
