As we gathered for our October meeting, members of the Somers Women’s Club enjoyed social time and refreshments, with an autumn theme, provided by the hostess committee. We welcomed our guest speaker, Jessica Pardi of The Network Against Domestic Abuse, who spoke about the education and services The Network provides in our local communities. Then we presented her with hand-sewn comfort bears, made by club members, and also a $584 donation check, which was a combination of individual member donations and a match by the club. The comfort bears, the meeting program, and the donation to The Network were all part of our General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) International Day of Service project. After the meeting, comfort bears were also presented to the Somers Fire Department and the Resident Troopers Office/Somers Police to have in their ambulances and cruisers.
Following the program, we held our business meeting. We welcomed three new members, Margaret, Kathy, and Jill! They each received their membership pins and new member materials. During the meeting we discussed current and upcoming service projects, programs, and events including holiday events, a craft class, a trip, and the next book discussion. Our annual See’s Candies fundraiser was launched at the meeting and will continue through November 5. The next meeting of the Somers Women’s Club will be held on Thursday, November 5 at 1:00 pm in the Foundation Room of the Somers Congregational Church. Prospective members and guests are welcome to attend! For further information, contact us at [email protected].
