Our camp family is remembering and honoring Bert Schultz—a man whose faithful “yes” to God helped shape the ministry of Solid Rock Bible Camp into what it is today. Bert passed away on June 21, 2026 at age 94.
Bert came to Alaska in 1957 as a missionary with his wife Donna and son Scott to Old Harbor and then moved to Sterling where he pastored Northland (now Sterling) Baptist Church before helping to start Solid Rock Bible Camp with the Kenai Peninsula Fellowship. Bert directed the camp from 1961 to 1996, retiring after 38 years of developing programs to help young people understand God’s love for them. Even after retirement, he continued to support the mission of the camp in many ways. His later years were spent enjoying his grandchildren and helping others in the community.
Every summer, campers laugh around campfires, worship in chapel, build friendships, and discover God’s love on these grounds. Those moments continue today because of the faithfulness, vision, and sacrifice of people like Bert and Donna.
Our camp community benefits every day from the foundation Bert and Donna helped lay. We are grateful to be part of a story that began long before us, and we pray we’ll carry that legacy with the same faithfulness for those who come after us.

A memorial service celebrating Bert’s life will be held on Sunday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Soldotna Bible Chapel. We invite all whose lives were touched by Bert and the ministry of Solid Rock to join in remembering and giving thanks for his faithful service.
