Simpsonville Club Rotarian and professional ventriloquist Rick Evans demonstrated his skills and passion in ventriloquism since the age of ten. After introducing his three friends, Haywood, Red Duck, and Charlie, Rick took time to show us the “backside” of ventriloquist puppets Rick had several Club members try their skill in ventriloquism i clueing finding a voice and telling a joke. Our first “Discover Rotary” session for new and prospective members was held just prior to our regular Wednesday luncheon meeting. AG Dee Vaughn, four Club members and two guests participated. The session provided an overview of Rotary International along with details specific to our Club. Going forward, we plan to hold these sessions as needed whenever two or more potential members attend as guests.

High School Senior and Miss Teen Simpsonville Volunteer, Katelyn Moore, spoke about the growing “Wait Until 8th” movement, which encourages parents to delay giving smartphones to their children until at least eighth grade. The initiative began in Texas with the goal of having groups of at least ten families pledge to keep their elementary-aged children phone-free, thereby helping to reduce the peer pressure that often surrounds smartphone use among young students.
For more information, you can contact Katelyn at [email protected] or visit waituntil8th.org to make a pledge.

The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until the end of 8th grade.
