Rocky Creek Greenway

Hi everyone,
Rocky Creek Greenway is not dead! These things take time :) We need your help to increase awareness of our communities in the on-going work of Bike Walk Greenville:

If you are interested in safer walking and bicycling options to get to school, work or shopping in our area please attend one of the Bike Walk Greenville sessions. The closest one to us is at the Mauldin Cultural Center 101 E Butler Rd from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m this Thursday.
These meetings are being coordinated in order to gather public input and then prioritize a list of opportunities for County Council to consider when funding is available.
Some food for thought:
- Only 20% of our schools are walkable. Does anybody remember the days when we walked or biked to school?
- Fairview Road has 2,000 homes within walking distance to shopping but no sidewalks for access.

I attended the meeting in Greenville yesterday and gave input for our area - but in order to rise in priority we need more people to show up. If you are anywhere near Mauldin tomorrow please stop in - all you need to do is sign in, list your neighborhood, and indicate on the large maps they have printed out where you'd like improvements.

Hi everyone, Greenville Rec is preparing grant applications for various projects and needs your input. If you like river paddling and mountain biking closer to Simpsonville, a new trail for special needs kids, as well as Swamp Rabbit improvements, please check out the presentations and send an email to the address at the end of each. Hello everyone from Weatherstone, please try and attend the info session on 7/22 at 7pm. There has been a good amount of feedback and comments about the greenway idea, so I hope to meet all of you and discuss further at the meeting so there is a clear understanding about the concept. Thanks!

There have been a few concerns voiced about trail safety and when discussing this it is important to look at study data and not anecdotal evidence. Check out this link and the comprehensive study to which it refers. In summary, greenways are not crime free, but the incident rate of crime on a greenway vs its respective area is lower, and in some cases the greenway's existence drives crime away. Please take a look.

Hi folks, here's an updated draft plan with the Weatherstone connection re-routed. In the first draft the connection was not ideal concerning buffer zones to individual property owners. It has been changed to follow a better route that is also an easier trail path. Please let me know your thoughts - remember this is simply a draft plan; we need to work together to make this agreeable to everyone! Thanks - Mark Collett

Check out this trail which Benchmark Trails from Greenville, SC helped to build. This was a partnership between Mercer University and St. Pius X Catholic School in Atlanta, to create a trail for their Cross Country team. We could do something similar with Greenville Tech and Brashier Middle College Charter High.
