This week, Safety Compass was honored to be recognized by the Fedreal Bureau of Investigations as the recipient of the 2026 Local Community Partner Award at the FBI Portland Annual Community Partner Awards Ceremony.

We are so thankful for the partnerships we have across the community, and want to acknowledge the incredible amount of collaboration it takes when working with youth who have experienced trafficking and exploitation. It is because of this collaboration across multiple agencies that survivors are able to find safety and justice.

Among our partners, we want to extend a huge congratulations to who recieved the FBI Director's Community Leadership Award. As one of the leading CAC's in the state of Oregon, we are so proud to see their incredible work recognized on a federal level.

Thank you to all our community partners and supporters for making it possible to continue to extend relentless hope to the most vulnerable. We are honored to do this work alongside you all.

What an incredible May this has been! One of the biggest highlights that kicked off the month was the 2026 Oregon Child Abuse & Human Trafficking Summit, which featured 70+ speakers across 50+ classes. With a reach to over 500 attendees made up of professionals & service providers from not only Oregon, but across multiple states, we were honored to co-present this year's Summit!

A huge thank you to the McDaniel High School Business Management class for selecting Safety Compass as a recipient of this year's Student Grantmaking Grant Awards.

We are so inspired by this group of students and changemakers! After witnessing a young woman experiencing exploitation on 82nd avenue during lunch on field trip, the students in this class decided that they wanted to use their grantmaking opportunity support survivors directly in our community, and chose human trafficking as their cause. Students spent the year raising funds and creating a grant that would support organizations addressing trafficking locally, and Safety Compass is honored to be one of the organizations selected.

Because of their incredible support, Safety Compass can continue to meet survivors directly in the community, providing on-scene confidential advocacy and crisis response.

Sophia is approximately 5’1” tall, weighs around 105 pounds, has long straight red hair, and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing an unknown shirt with pink pajama pants.

Earlier this month, our Jail Team was honored with the Founder’s Award at the Child Abuse & Human Trafficking Summit.

They were recognized as leaders in Oregon for their work identifying and supporting victims of human trafficking.

This work doesn’t happen by chance.

It takes training, awareness, and a team that knows what to look for — even in places others might not expect.

Our jail is more than a facility. It’s a critical point of contact where victims can be identified, supported, and connected to resources.

We’re proud of this team and their continued commitment to safety, service, and doing the right thing.

🎊Congratulations to Rachel Schutz on recieving the 2026 Meghan Conners Heart of Resilience Award.🎊

This award honors the legacy of Meghan Conners, a survivor leader who courageously shared her story and lived experience expertise with professionals across the country to strengthen and improve the response to human trafficking. Meghan passed away in 2025, leaving behind a powerful legacy of courage, compassion, and system-changing advocacy. Through her work with the Human Trafficking Training Center and her leadership as a survivor, Meghan challenged systems to listen more closely, respond more compassionately, and center lived experience in their work. She used her voice to drive meaningful change, believing that survivors must be heard to create safer, more effective responses.

Presented in partnership with the Oregon Child Abuse & Human Trafficking Summit, Safety Compass, and Oregon’s Regional Human Trafficking Task Forces, this award recognizes an individual who embodies the courage, kindness, and commitment to collaboration Meghan demonstrated throughout her life.

Rachel Schutz's dedication to elevating survivor voices and centering lived experience has helped transform our systems response in powerful and lasting ways. Rachel's consistent commitment to survivor-led perspectives is evident in both her professional work and community efforts, where she ensures those most impacted are not only heard, but valued as leaders in shaping change. Through her leadership, she has advanced trauma-informed, survivor-centered approaches that prioritize dignity, safety, and empowerment. Rachel's ongoing engagement in anti-trafficking and survivor advocacy work reflects a deep and unwavering commitment to this mission. ♥️

Since Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, Safety Compass has responded on-scene to multiple requests for emergency response and advocacy from Portland Police Bureau’s Human Trafficking Unit. The Portland Police Bureau’s Human Trafficking Unit (HTU) and East Precinct Officers identified six teenage girls, ranging in age from 13 years old to 17 years old, who were being commercially sexually exploited and trafficked along 82nd Avenue.

While Safety Compass’ organization-wide statistics show that approximately 50% of survivors that experience commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking are minors at the time of identification locally, this is an especially concerning number of minors to be identified in such a short period of time.

Safety Compass accompanies PPB’s HTU on missions that identify and make contact with commercially sexually exploited individuals. Culturally-specific advocates are prepared to provide immediate advocacy and crisis response in these situations, and collaborate across agencies to help youth receive wrap-around, trauma-informed care.
