🏡 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐬 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬

Doing this work isn’t always easy. Arwind acknowledges that feeders often face unfair discrimination and criticism from the community when a couple of territorial dogs cause tension. “Because of one or two dogs, the entire strays gets blamed unfairly,” he says.

But he refuses to let negativity stop him. Instead, he focuses on action:

𝟏𝟓 𝐏𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝: Together with his wife, they have managed to find homes for around 15 stray puppies since moving to their taman in August 2025.
𝐅𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞: They currently care for three adopted street pups in their own home.
𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: Arwind is personally covering the treatment costs for a local stray suffering from TVT, partnering with F5 to get him to his weekly injections. “Thankfully he is recovering well,” Arwind updates.

For Arwind, real change requires a shift in mindset. He believes that managing the stray population shouldn’t fall on just a few shoulders, but on the whole neighborhood.

“Imagine how beautiful our taman would be if more people chose compassion instead of hatred and complaints. To me, these strays are angels without wings. They deserve to live, to eat, and to be loved just like any other living being.”

🐾 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐃𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐲

What started as grief became purpose. After losing her beloved dog, Dorothy found herself drawn to the strays outside — and one day, spotted puppies surviving in the hills of Sg Long. “There’s no food source there given it’s a jungle… so I started going there everyday to feed them.” She’s been showing up ever since.

Dorothy balances a full-time office job while quietly feeding strays around her neighbourhood, facilitating adoptions — including her proudest moment: finding a forever home for Kiara, a lively girl who loves to roam 🐕 — and most recently, playing a pivotal role in rescuing the Sungai Long 5.

After a year of devotedly feeding the five dogs by the shophouses, the feeders came under threat — shopkeepers warned they’d report the dogs to the Majlis to be culled. Dorothy immediately reached out to F5 for trapping assistance, and together we got all five dogs to safety. They’re now awaiting neutering surgery and will be rehomed to a farm in Johor. 🏡

On the daily reality of feeding: “Some people do complain when we feed the dogs near the community… though I did clean up after each feeding.” Yet she kept showing up anyway.

Her hope is simple: “I hope the community can be a bit more understanding of them and not treat them as a nuisance.” 💛

Every bowl filled, every dog saved — thank you, Dorothy. 🐾

𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲’𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭. 🐾

We responded to a community of dedicated feeders in Sungai Long, Balakong who had been caring for a family of dogs near some shophouses for over a year. Facing pressure from shopkeepers 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐥𝐢𝐬 — 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 — 𝐅𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐍𝐕𝐑𝐌 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬.

This is a classic, successful example of the 𝐑 — 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐍𝐕𝐑𝐌. Rather than leaving the dogs to face an uncertain fate, we worked to find them a proper home. The 5 dogs are now at the shelter awaiting surgery day. After being neutered and vaccinated, they will be permanently rehomed on a farm in Johor — exactly what relocation should look like.

What made this operation especially meaningful was seeing everyone come together. It was a beautiful reflection of community spirit — people of different races, backgrounds, and cultures working side by side for the welfare of these dogs. We were also deeply touched by a Bangladeshi uncle who willingly stepped forward and helped throughout the entire operation.

Compassion knows no race, language, or nationality. When a community unites for a common purpose, lives are saved and positive change becomes possible.

🌟 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐈𝐬𝐡𝐚🌟

“I think I’m proudest of myself for taking that very first step into feeding, despite not knowing anything at the start.”

Meet Isha — a doctor, an animal lover, and a dedicated volunteer we’ve had the privilege of working with. 🐾

When she moved to Gamuda Cove, Banting last year, she spotted a dog near a newly opened apartment complex — “quiet and weary, yet perhaps silently hoping someone would stop by to feed.” She soon realised it wasn’t just him. So she made a call, bought food, and got started the very next day.

As her feeding journey grew, she came to understand that food alone wasn’t the answer. “Many of these dogs were going into heat and becoming pregnant, leading to unnecessary suffering — that was when I understood the importance of TNRM as a humane long-term solution.”

When she encountered a large pack of construction site dogs in Gamuda Cove that needed more expertise, she reached out to us. “That was when I reached out to F5, and I’m truly grateful for their support and guidance.” 🐕

Together with our Ms Soo Min, Isha planned and executed the trapping of 6 female dogs for sterilisation — with guidance on trappers, pet taxis, and bait. When one of her girls was diagnosed with tick fever, Ms K Soo Min arranged a fosterer until she recovered. Every dog was taken care of. 💛

The journey hasn’t been without hardship. “People threw rubbish and screamed profanities at me — but I remind myself that change takes time.”

What keeps her going?

“Their excited faces running towards my car, the helicopter tails, the zoomies, and them jumping up to greet me. I’m truly grateful these beautiful beings allowed me into their world.” 🚗💨

Isha hopes for stronger enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, and for “more concerted community efforts in humane stray dog management, so that our strays may co-exist without fear, hunger, or unnecessary suffering.”

Since January 2026, 10 of our managed TNVRM community dogs have been deliberately and brutally poisoned in Balakong. This is a direct violation of the law. Thanks to vigilant community members, we have secured evidence identifying a suspect and are taking full legal action alongside Counsel of Claws (CoC).

For T.Tanujaah, a local teacher, caring for strays isn’t just a hobby—it’s a lifelong family legacy. Growing up watching their parents feed community animals, preparing fresh chicken meals (never leftovers or spoiled food!) became second nature. But being a dedicated feeder comes with heavy challenges, from facing public complaints to the heartbreaking sight of dogs running from local authority lorries.

Despite the hurdles, T.Tanujaah keeps going. Why? Because nothing beats the sight of a happy, wagging tail after a good meal, or the joy of finding a loving home for a rescued female pup.

Like many independent feeders, T.Tanujaah was initially skeptical about getting NGOs involved. “In the past, I’d contact shelters or groups and rarely get a solution,”

T.Tanujaah shares, “But when I saw F5 coming in to trap, neuter, and return (TNVRM) the dogs, it changed everything. I even joined in twice to help trap the dogs I know! Seeing them returned safely to their areas gave me real hope and confidence.”
