We are saddened to hear this news. Jason Barney was our keynote speaker two years go and always brought his classes to the museum as they explored local history. Our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Today we’re holding a quieter kind of moment at the Manor.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jason Barney—a storyteller in the truest sense. Jason had a rare gift for bringing history to life, taking the echoes of the past and giving them a voice we could all hear and feel.

His connection to places like ours wasn’t just professional—it was personal. He understood that buildings like The Highgate Manor aren’t just structures… they’re keepers of stories, of lives lived, of moments that matter.

We were honored to be included in his published work—a lasting piece of his legacy that now carries both his voice and a small part of ours within it.

Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His words, his passion, and his dedication to preserving history will continue to live on—just like the stories he so carefully told.

Green Up with Sheldon. From 9-1 this Saturday, the Sheldon
Historical Society will be Greening Up and cleaning up at the Society's Bridge Street museum.

Stop by and pitch in with a bit of elbow grease, and enjoy a bite of Fern's famous maple baked beans, hot dogs, chips, various unspecified libations, and other treats too numerous to name.

Eight years in, I think we can call this a tradition: Join us and become an official footnote of history.

"Let Freedom Ring"
We invite you to wave your flags and cheer as marching bands, reenactors, vintage vehicles and community groups bring the town of Sheldon to life in a grand commemorative parade. That's whats happening in Sheldon on Saturday, July 25, 2026!

Your historical society is looking forward to taking the lead in this memorable event that will unite generations in a powerful celebration of our shared history and hometown pride.

You ask "How can I help?"
We need recommendations for marching bands and bands performing on floats that we will provide if needed. We're recruiting decorated floats that inspire community spirit and/or portray an event in local, state or national history.

We're looking for face painters, vintage cars, trucks and tractors, clowns, parade animals, vintage Santa suit and tree decorations.

A float can consist of a small trailer pulled by an ATV, or as simple as a Radio Flyer wagon pulled by a child with mom passing out tootsie rolls, sugar babies or Bit-o-Honey candy.

We encourage you to get your creative juices flowing, fill out the registration form and submit to our parade director. Feel free to respond to this posting with any questions or suggestions you may have. Thanks!
