I get so upset when people look down on folks who get food stamps. This is a good reminder we have nothing to be embarrassed about.

We are always looking for volunteers to help out at the food shelf.

Of course there are the 4 regular shifts each week and the big third Tuesday of the month. We'd love to have new folks join the team every week.

However, not everyone can make an every week kind of commitment - there are so many other things the food shelf can use help for:
- covering a shift here or there when regular staff can't be there, - help picking up donations at Hannafords,
- help processing extra produce when we have it,
- or just taking extra cardboard to the pulpmill.

There are so many little things that keep the food shelf running and we'd love to have you join us. It's a great group of people to work with and you get to help your neighbors!

Last weekend everything was cheap but this weekend everything is FREE and there is still lots of really good stuff left!

This weekend there's a great rummage sale in Fletcher. There is s much stuff and it is priced incredibly cheaply. You can fill a giant bag with clothes for the whole family for $5. Plus toys for the kids and a huge assortment of housewares. It is definitely worth the drive!

(And if you don't go this week you can try next week when everything is free!)

**** SCAM Alert!!!! ******

We've received a few messages asking about the offers of free meat or food showing up on Facebook. All they ask is your zipcode and they promise to deliver this free stuff to your door.

This is a scam. They are not offering free anything. They are collecting $$$ from Facebook based on the number of likes or replies. And they are probably also selling lists of facebook names per zipcode.

Don't like or reply to these messages. Don't encourage these scammers.

Okay. I know it's April and that we just got more snow but here at the Food Shelf we know Summer is coming. We are planning on distributing the free summer meals for kids again this year. You do not have to be a food shelf regular to get these meals. You do not need to live in Sheldon. You need not need to be on SNAP. These are for all kids in Vermont.

Last year we distributed Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30. This year we are considering a later time (like 5-6 or 5:30-6:30). We will need to pick a time and stick with it for the whole summer so we'd REALLY love to hear from you what times will work best for you.

We are asking ALL families interested in meals to indicate interest by emailing, texting, or calling John Gorton 802-734-8967 or [email protected] so we can get a rough idea of interest and the best time for distribution. You can also message this FB page and I'll get the word to John. Whatever is easiest for you, we just want to hear who is interested and what times work best for them.

Also, i think this is new this year: We can provide meals with special dietary restrictions like gluten free, nut free, diabetic, dairy free, vegetarian, Etc. but those have to be specifically requested so please indicate if you have children with special dietary needs.

No pictures because I'm not working today but i hear we have LOTS of fresh pears and bananas. So even if you were in recently swing by and get some fresh fruit! Pears taste like summer and we all need a reminder summer is coming. Soon!
