We loved getting out into the community for two Trunk or Treat events! 🎃

Carly and Aaron joined the fun at LindenPointe, while Katie and Krista connected with families at Sharon First United Methodist UMC.

Keeping kids safe is always a priority at AWARE, Inc. Along with plenty of candy, we shared resources to help parents and caregivers talk with children about bullying and online predators.

A special shoutout to our Board President, Leah Sizer, for stopping by and supporting us! 💜

Thank you to both events for welcoming us—and to everyone who stopped by to say hello. Together, we can build a safer community for every child.

You don't have to wait until you have everything figured out to ask for help. When you call AWARE's 24/7 hotline, you'll reach a trained advocate who can listen without judgment, offer support, and help you think through your next steps.

Some people call to ask about shelter, safety planning, legal advocacy, or counseling, while others reach out because they're worried about a friend or simply need someone to talk to. You don't need to know which service fits your situation before you call, since our team will help you figure out where to start.

Call 1-888-981-1457 for confidential support, day or night.

Safety often begins with a safe place, and AWARE's new shelter came together through a great deal of community care. Created in partnership with George Junior Republic, the new space adds bed capacity and is arranged on one floor for greater accessibility.

We're so grateful to the local quilting groups who made the quilts on our beds, to HopeCat for the artwork, and to the Quota Club for donating bedding. Practical donations like these, along with personal-care items, meals, and children's supplies, help a shelter feel like a place of dignity and stability for survivors and their families.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Hermitage Police Department for showing their support during Domestic Violence Awareness Month by wearing AWARE pins on their vests.

Visible acts of solidarity like this help remind survivors that our community stands with them and that support is available.

We’re also so grateful to our Board Member, Jimmy Kirsch, for generously providing the pins. Thank you for helping us raise awareness, promote safety, and build a community free from violence.

Domestic violence doesn't always look the way people expect, and a few common myths can make it harder to recognize.

◾ Myth: If there are no bruises, it isn't abuse.
Reality: Abuse can include control, intimidation, isolation, and financial, physical, or sexual violence. A person may be kept from money, transportation, a phone, or the people they love without ever having a visible injury.

◾ Myth: Anyone in an abusive relationship can simply leave.
Reality: Leaving isn't always simple or immediately safe, and survivors know their own situations best. Everyone deserves support without judgment, wherever they are in the process.

◾ Myth: Help is only for those who are ready to leave.
Reality: You can reach out to AWARE for support, safety planning, or just someone to listen, whatever you decide.

Every student deserves to learn in an environment free from sexual assault and sexual harassment.

Title IX is a federal civil rights law that protects students from sex-based discrimination, including sexual violence and sexual harassment, at schools that receive federal funding. If harm is affecting your education, you may have options for supportive measures—such as academic adjustments, housing or schedule changes, counseling referrals, and no-contact measures—whether or not you choose to make a formal report.

You deserve to be heard, believed, and supported. You are never to blame for someone else’s harmful behavior.

AWARE, Inc. is here for Mercer County students with free, confidential, survivor-centered support. Our advocates can help you understand your options, navigate campus or legal processes, access medical advocacy and counseling referrals, and make a plan that feels right for you.

Our staff has been busy getting out into the community and sharing how AWARE supports survivors and families throughout Mercer County.

Aaron, Bethany, and Krista attended Sharon School District’s Family Night, where they connected with local families and community members. Then on Saturday, Krista and Bethany visited Spectrum Alpaca Farm—where they also got to spend a little time with some very cute alpacas!

Community events help strengthen the relationships that make our work possible. By showing up, listening, and sharing information about AWARE’s confidential services, we can help ensure that people know support is available when they need it most.

Thank you to both events for welcoming us into the community! 💜

Will you help the children of Mercer County?

Our Children's Program has grown significantly, and we’re working to refresh our children’s counseling room into a warm, welcoming space where kids can feel safe as they process difficult experiences.

Children who have experienced trauma deserve comfort, care, and a space designed with their healing in mind. From cozy seating and sensory tools to calming décor and age-appropriate activities, every item can help make a meaningful difference.

Would you consider supporting this project through our Amazon Wish List? Your generosity will help us create a more inviting therapy room for the children and families we serve in Mercer County.

Thank you for helping us make healing feel a little more possible. 💜

We’re proud to celebrate the grand opening of the Brandi Montgomery House in Grove City.

Brandi’s legacy lives on through this home—a safe haven for individuals and families affected by domestic and sexual violence.

We are deeply grateful to the Brandi Montgomery Family, Junior Republic, City Area United Way , our wonderful Aware staff and the many community partners who made this meaningful project a reality. Together, we are creating safety, hope, and healing for survivors.
