There is so much to discover, learn and explore! The Fern Hollow Nature Center is a place where individuals, groups and families can come to enjoy the outdoors.

At Fern Hollow Nature Center, our mission is to inspire people of all ages to connect with nature through hands-on education and exploration of the Sewickley Valley parks. It is also the gateway to the area park system. Educational programs are both organized and spontaneous and are aimed at helping children and adults understand and appreciate the environment. The Nature Center welcomes the public and is an accessible facility. There is an indoor assembly area which will accommodate 40 people, a catering kitchen and two restrooms. Immediately adjacent to the Center is a small parking area. Outdoors, there is a plateau – an ideal place for camping, football, kite flying or star gazing. There is a sloping field with paths for walking, sledding, bird watching and observing insects. Within a short distance, is the vast Sewickley Heights Borough Park and various creeks, such as Fern Hollow and Little Sewickley Creek.

We asked a local Girl Scout troop to create "posters" illustrating some of the reminders that we'd like people to remember when using the Outdoor Classroom/garden area.

Yesterday we thanked our business sponsors, and today it’s all about the families!

These families stepped up to sponsor this year’s Fall Music Festival. Thanks to them, our community got a night of live music, bonfire s’mores and fall fun at the Hollow. Your generosity also supports the environmental education programs that happen here all year long.

What a night! Thank you to everyone who came out to the Fall Music Festival and celebrated with us, a little mud and all. Between cozying up by the bonfire, making s’mores and enjoying great music from No Bad Juju and Crucible Cover Band, it was a perfect fall evening at the Hollow.

None of it would have been possible without our incredible sponsors, both businesses and families, who helped bring this event to life. Today we’re thanking our business sponsors, and tomorrow we’ll celebrate the families who made it happen. Thank you for being part of our Fern Hollow family.

We also have exciting news: we’re in the home stretch of our capital campaign! We’re so close to reaching our goal, and our new 1,200-square-foot addition is almost finished. It will give us more classroom space, stronger educational programs and an even more welcoming place for families, students and nature lovers.

❗❗A few tips for the best night: bring a blanket and warm layers for when the sun goes down, and wear boots or shoes you don’t mind getting a little messy. Yesterday’s rain gave the grounds a good soak, so think trail-ready, not date-night.❗❗
