Our mission is clear, every child that comes through our program, regardless of talent, has the inalienable right to improve athletically and socially through friendships they develop for life. AFHA is a member of good standing with the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL) and the Mid-Am District of USA Hockey. We practice and play our home games at one of the Pittsburgh-area's finest facilities, RMU Island Sports Center located on historic Neville Island. Hey Foxes! Did you know that having a concussion baseline test on file can make a huge difference if an injury occurs during the season? Why?
🏒It establishes your athlete’s normal cognitive function before an injury
🏒Helps medical professionals make more accurate return-to-play decisions
🏒Provides objective data to compare after a suspected concussion
🏒Supports safer recovery and reduces the risk of returning too soon
🏒Gives parents, coaches, and athletes added peace of mind
While we don’t like it, concussions can happen at any level of hockey. Having a baseline test completed before the season starts is one of the best ways to protect your athlete’s long-term health and safety.

Thanks to HeadsUP Pittsburgh, UPMC Sports Medicine and the Pittsburgh Penguins they’re on a mission to make sure every athlete has the chance to get a FREE concussion baseline test done before the season starts- because keeping kids safe and on the ice is everyone’s goal!

There is no fee in June or July and athletes can be as young as 5 years old, just head to www.UPMC.com/headsUP to register today!

It is with incredible sadness that we share that Evan Piatkowski earned his wings early this morning.

He battled so hard against astrocytoma and even in the hardest moments he never lost the qualities that made him truly Evan.

Please join us in honoring Evans life by placing your sticks out tonight for a member of our hockey family gone too soon.

Rest easy, Evan. May you spend the rest of eternity skating on a fresh sheet of ice or with a fishing pole in your hand waiting for us all to join you.

If you wish to contribute to the GoFundMe set up to help Christy, Rich and Zak honor his legacy and complete Evan’s final resting place wishes the link is below.

We all know that hockey is more than a game — it’s a family. And right now, one of our own needs us.

For over two years, former Arctic Fox Evan Piatkowski has been bravely battling astrocytoma with piloid features, a rare and inoperable form of brain cancer. Diagnosed shortly after graduating high school, Evan had so much life ahead of him, but this diagnosis turned every day into a relentless uphill challenge for both him and his family. If you were lucky enough to play with Evan, or for his Mom, Coach Christy, then you know what a light and energy he brought to the ice. Now we’re asking for everyone in the hockey community to help bring that light to Evans family as he bravely navigates the time he has left.

Every donation, share, and message of encouragement can make a difference during this fight. Evan and his family (parents Christy and Rich and his brother Zak) have been living at the hospital, facing these challenges every day with gratitude and cherishing every moment they have with him. To help ease their financial burden please consider making a donation as these funds will go toward medical expenses, transportation, and fulfilling Evan’s final wishes with dignity and love.
Any contribution, big or small, will provide vital support, allowing the family to focus on what matters most and honor Evan’s legacy.
