Sand Point Arts & Cultural Exchange

Sand Point Arts & Cultural Exchange SPACE facilitates cultural uses, activities and programming in Warren G. Magnuson Park.

The board of directors, staff, and volunteers of SPACE are committed to our organization's role in creating an inclusive, diverse, and equitable Seattle. We acknowledge the structural inequities and systemic barriers within the arts for many marginalized communities that include people of color, indigenous, women and the LGBTQ communities. We recognize that the unceded land we operate from, and th

e park we all enjoy, was once home to the Coast Salish peoples. We furthermore acknowledge the neighborhoods of North Seattle were previously redlined as an effort to exlude Black, brown, Asian and Jewish people. We work to actively remedy the past by claiming ground for intentional representation and by facilitating diversity among the artists we serve and the programs we produce and broadcast.

Artist Spotlight: Karey Kessler and Elizabeth Bruno

"explores her internal landscape of time, place, and spirituality through the use of map imagery. Her work concerns issues about the environment, layers of geological history, the vastness of the universe, and the fleetingness of each moment." (Image 2 unfathomable Eternity, watercolor and ink, 12x24)

.art "memory exists not only in language, but in visual perception. Our minds record, in a non-verbal way, both ideas and images. As input is stores, processed and re-interprerted in idiosyncratic ways, the imagery becomes part of an artists visual language" (Image 3, Magpie, oil paint on panel, 16x16)
