The Basic Alpine Course is back for 2027! Whether you’ve been dreaming of your first glacier crossing or you’re ready to level up your skills, this course gives you the foundation to get out there with confidence.

If you are interested in applying to a scholarship for this course, be sure to submit an application no later than October 16th.

What you’ll learn:
- Rock climbing: belaying, rappelling, rope handling, and anchors
- Glacier travel and crevasse rescueSnow anchors and technical rope systems
- The skills and judgement to confidently pursue more technical alpine climbs

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of TJ King. A six-year Mountaineers member, TJ was a deeply beloved and dedicated volunteer instructor who championed outdoor education, access, and belonging for our community.

Meet this month's featured volunteer: Marissa Blaisdell, whose favorite Mountaineers memory is summiting her (and several other SIG members’) fifth Washington volcano, Glacier Peak, in 2024. In her words, “It took some of us decades and some of us only one season but standing up there as a group and sharing that achievement was awesome!”

Protecting public lands takes all of us. Last week, we joined Alliance, , and in Washington, D.C. to meet with every office in Washington's congressional delegation, including Rep. Emily Randall and staff from Rep. Dan Newhouse's office.

By coming together across the outdoor community, we can more effectively champion the public lands and waters that support recreation, local economies, and outdoor experiences for everyone.
