We’re honored to have received a donation in memory of Warren John Thompson, a musician and member of our community who passed away in May of 2025. We want to express our deepest condolences for this loss, and gratitude for this gift.

Warren was a drummer, music fan, animal lover, and cherished friend and family member who volunteered his time often—and even once rode his bicycle from Ohio to San Francisco in support of ending childhood hunger.

Below are a few quotes his family and friends shared with SMASH.

🥁🥁🥁

“I was never shocked by what Warren would or could do. He was such a unique person, and he was my very own son.

There wasn't anyone he wouldn't help.

He was definitely fearless, always ready to tackle the next challenge.”

-Judy J., Warren’s mother

🥁🥁🥁

“We played in a Spinal Tap tribute band called S**t Sandwich. He also played briefly in a band with some mutual friends called Complete Waste. Bonerhead was a band featuring some members of Useless Wooden Toys. The bands we did together didn't really have any recordings.

He lived five times as much in 53 years than most experience in a 100. He was also a great cook who taught me a lot as well. And from the way he talked about Barbara, he was a really great brother as well. He was extremely kind and giving.”

-Kerry R., Warren’s friend

🥁🥁🥁

“I miss him so much. Every single day. I still hate waking up and realizing he's no longer there. I'm grateful I had the 53 years with him.

53 years sounds like a long time, but not when it's your brother.”

-Barbara T., Warren’s sister
